What about a metal core cat? Be a little PC and shave a few db.

We ran a dynomax bullet on a spec miata for years and never had a problem. But I can say that it doesn't cut the sound down like a big glasspack or cat.

I'm still good for 1.5 years. I'll be throwing a 200-300 cell spun metal core in there...eventually.

I don't see how one could collapse....all a resonator is, louvered or not, is a drilled pipe with a shell welded around it. the dynomax happened to have holes drilled out, while the louvers have slots punched in. Unless they use some thin ass metal and drill the too liberally, I don't see it happening.

as far as testing....this may be a good chance to finally put the magnehelic gauge i have to work...

That's what I meant, bullet muffler. We couldn't figure out how they collapsed either. The outside of the pipe looked perfect. The inside looked like someone took a pair of vise grips to a coke can. These were all mounted mid-exhaust with no cat, so our theory is that they have serious problems dealing with heat. I've seen it first-hand twice and heard about it from quite a few others.

I've also seen resonators and flex sections buckle inwards.

In fact... the rattle/vibration I'm dealing with is either a joint in my exhaust or something crapping out in my resonator already.

Hopefully I figure it out tonight.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) my massive exhaust rattle turned out to be the heat shield on my universal catalytic converter - which is being swapped out for my 200 cell metal core this weekend... if the USPS decides to finally deliver my flanges.

Going with clamps for now untill I can get it welded. Simply shoving it on my tailpipe and it reduces the overall volume just a tad, removes a but of resonance so it's not so annoying, shoudl be good. should have it finished in a bit, it's hot as a coffee mug out there!

It does help smooth out the sound a bit...not sure if it makes it quieter.

Drove about 45 minutes in stop and go traffic, much improved. The loud ricer whine is gone when I get in boost, and the overall booming resonance of the exhaust is gone. I iz happier.....I'll get some vids tomorrow when it's not raining.
