Your heater hoses...

how do you protect them???

I just got boosted, was driving around (very rich and untuned)... only hit boost here and there... come back and my heater hose is leaking bad.

-Coolant temps were 200-205 at the time according to megasquirt.
-Hard line was bent to give aprox. 1.5" of clearance from turbo elbow to heater hose.
- Hose was half-ass protected with spark plug wire wrap from advanced.
- FM mani, sr20 t25, fm outlet and downpipe.

I was thinking of trying to bend the hard line even more, and then get SS braided line.

I dont think I got much more clearance than you when I bent mine. Maybe half an inch more than that.

I found some ducting tape of some sort in my garage left by the last tenant. Saw no heat rating or anything about it. Its like a foam tape with foil on one side and sticky on the other. Shit, I even zip-tied the top of it and its still holding up fine. Zip-tie isn't even melted. I'm betting you could get this at home depot/lowes on the cheap.

I bought a starter heat sheild, cloth material, silver sided and then cut it up and wrapped the hoses and then wire wrapped the material to hold it.

My hoses are old and hard though... reminds me that I should get around to replacing them anyways.

I've linked competition products before - they've got loads of heat wrap/shield at heavy discounts.

you need silver or gold foil faced fiberglass. the end. /thread
you will have more radiated heat than anything else and that's what the silver face rejects. I've been running this stuff on my car for eons and it's never failed.

You can see why I need it. red hot mani an <1inch away from hoses:

(actually some of that is the tape or what's left of it)

you can get it in sleeves or velcro sleeves (or tape that falls off after a few hundred miles). the sleeves / split loom mean not having to disconnect hoses.
