205 @ 16 psi?

Seems like there's a restriction somewhere. Look how the torque plummets after ~4600.

levnubhin 05-08-2008 08:34 AM

Deffinately something holding it back.

How did you get the 460cc injectors to work with the Emanage blue?

+1 to the previous posts.

Greets

Braineack 05-08-2008 09:04 AM

The 45v3 is technically a T28, with the same compressor wheel as me but a smaller turbine....Since it's off an R33 I assume it has at least a .63 a/r turbine. In any case, the boost is either not holding to redline or the turbine is too small.

m2cupcar 05-08-2008 09:07 AM

Were you not getting any knock at 15:1 AFR ~3k rpm? That turbo should've been making a reasonable amount of boost at that point... enough to shake up your engine. Your AFR is pretty much a roller coast ride from start to finish.

Here's Arkmage's pull - similar turbo

Braineack 05-08-2008 09:14 AM

well if you look at his pull. his turbo doesnt even seem to spool untill 3.5k for some reason.

devin mac 05-08-2008 09:20 AM

yeah, that graph's all sorta of weird. small'ish turbine, spooling late, choking up top... sure there's not a potato in the tailpipe or something? :-)

samnavy 05-08-2008 09:45 AM

My vote is a boost leak that doesn't open up until the boost comes on really strong.

Double check all your couplers and take another turn on them. I hope you're using T-bolt clamps. Also, source another MBC, swap it in and pull it on the street to rule out the MBC being bad.

That turbo shouldn't have a problem holding 16psi to redline.

m2cupcar 05-08-2008 10:09 AM

I don't see any MAP indications... unless it's assumed due to the lack of power on the bottom end. You'd think a boost leak that bad wouldn't be able to produce a peak 16psi.

rotaryjunky 05-08-2008 10:31 AM

Did you ease it to 3500 or was it wide open? My gt28 isn't peaky like that at all.

ThePass 05-08-2008 11:48 AM

Is 16 psi really what it takes for us (1.6ers) to get 200 whp? I was hoping less...

10-12psi = 200whp

Everyone's setup is different around here. Couple guys got right up to 250 at 15 psi.

You might want to clear your throat there Braineack. lol

I agree. 15 AFR is getting on the lean side

Braineack 05-08-2008 07:51 PM

It's lean, but drops just as soon as the boost hits where it could be detrimental.

i still blame the turbine or wastegate control. based on your TQ number I assume you hit 15psi and it instantly dropped to 12 or so.

here's my old 11-12psi run. stock ecu, FMU for fuel, bipes to retard timing.

http://www.boostedmiata.com/dynos/11psi_dyno.jpg

this was with a really restrictive exhaust.....remember, our turbos are nearly identical. you lost nearly 40tq between 4700 and 6200. I only lost 15.

Actually, what's the 5.8 ratio? That's supposed to match the axle gearing...I assume it was third gear based on the number they have inputted. You would be at 5.72:1 if they do use overall. 1.330 trans and 4.3 final. That will lower the numbers some, but only a few HP.

Braineack 05-08-2008 08:11 PM

yeah looking again, the spool is nearly identical, but your tq drops. either your 3" exhaust is actually 2" or you need better boost control. But you should not be spooling this late with your exhaust. I spool 1000rpms soon now to the same psi with my 3" exhaust.

check our runs here together, you can see how similar they are, where you hit 15psi, but its obvious it drops off...or something is choked.

Arkmage 05-08-2008 10:14 PM

my guess would be an exhaust leak between the head and turbo... it explains the late spool and the poor flow in the top end

thank you guys for all your inputs. I would take a look at the exhaust, maybe its really holding back the turbo...

by the way, the exhaust side of the turbo was divided into 2 chambers, exhaust on the wastegate and exhaust on the turbine like this...

Attachment 213239

do you think guys this is causing the hold back?
