I went to Edgewater drag strip near Cincinnati this last night. I had been on an 1/8th but not a quarter. It was pretty sweet. I was very happy with my car. Car isn't really tuned. It was pretty cold so i had some problems with hitting overboost (201 kpa) but once i got the mbc dialed in the car was like a rocket. I would like to go back very soon and see if i can get that 60' down to about a 2.0.

thats a high trap speed for 13.1 i'd say you could get down to like 12.7ish easy maybe even 12.5

Lol.. i have a 13.75@109 for mine...

Hopefully I can pull some quicker times like this tomorrow.

Good jorb! :)

rotaryjunky 09-20-2008 01:38 PM

For a reality time, that is stupid fast. Congrats!

and to the OP thats a great job

ApexOnYou 09-20-2008 02:12 PM

12s easy with a 2.0 60ft, 1.8 60ft and you should be around 12.7. Nice times!

Very nice!

So you say you were hitting the overboost at 201kpa, what did you dial it down to/what did you make that run at?

ApexOnYou 09-20-2008 02:24 PM

+1 What boost were you (supposed to be) running?

patsmx5 09-20-2008 02:41 PM

Nice time. What tires and diff setup are you running?

Fireindc 09-20-2008 03:15 PM

Great time, 12's soon!

I was running about 14psi. It was dialed down just a tick to get it to stop hitting overboost.

If you have enough fuel it's easier just to raise the overboost limit ;)

Haha yeah, but i feel bad about raising it. I dont want to break things and a 110mph quarter is pretty fast for a miata. All in all i am pretty satisfied with this car, considering that this time last year i could barely change my own oil.

cueball1 09-22-2008 05:35 PM

Very nice. Gotta up my boostasezz!!! Went a couple weeks ago to the track here in Portland. A Mitsu tuner, English Racing, is here in P-land. There were a whole bunch of their customers with stupid fast (10 second) DSM's and Evo's. My high 13 Miata didn't get much attention!

It was about 12-14. My boost gauge was really jumpy. Shitty tune.

Nah. I'm skeptical of the dyno numbers with your 1/4 mph. Not saying I don't believe you, just typically the 13.0 miatas I've seen (especially ~ 15psi) typically put down around 250+rwhp. A good tune on a 1.8 shouldn't have any longevity problems.

You know, i always said that my car felt faster than 219whp. I should go to another dyno. The dyno was a mustang dyno and i've heard that they read low.

ApexOnYou 09-23-2008 01:01 AM

Your numbers should be way more than that for a 13 flat car. I would assume 250rwhp at worst.

There is almost no way. I mean, We are talking about a shitty street tune with a stolen spark map with overboost set at 201kpa. I really should get on the dyno again. My car is full weight. It just doesnt add up.

ApexOnYou 09-23-2008 01:06 AM

Do eet.

Seriously though, I would be curious to see those numbers. Just imagine if you get that tuned and put it on a diet!

Yeah, no doubt. On an unrelated topic, I really need to fix my wheel hop issues.

I was just looking at your profile and i was recently up near you. Do you know where muskego is? I went up there with a buddy of mine to get an exhaust for his S2k. He almost went to jail, funny story actually. I had no idea what a Tyme machine was.

elesjuan 09-23-2008 02:53 AM

Thats what I was thinking. Mustang dyno do read lower than a Dynojet does. Where did you steal your maps from? :) Have you attempted to tune the fuel map yet or just leave it?

wes65 09-23-2008 09:30 AM

I am pretty sure that the spark map is the same one paul is running. The fuel is tuned in the WOT and <100kpa parts of the map. If i roll into the throttle on the highway it goes very rich until it gets to the tuned part. however, on a 1/4 mile run, the afr's are around 11.2 the whole way.

Muskego is about 45min north west from me.. I am about 25min north of the Illinois border, just off the lake.

Whats the deal with Tyme machines? I have heard that same statement before. Is it just another company in other parts of the US? I mean what is it called elsewhere?

Here we just call them ATM machines. We got pulled over for street racing and my buddy (the driver) had illegal tags, no license, and no registration. The officer cuffed him and put him in the car and then came back if i had access to a tyme machine. I was thinking like, back to the future so i said no. He really meant so that i could get cash and pay the ticket on the spot so my buddy wouldn't go to jail. $186 later he was out of cuffs.

Anyway, i have stock suspension. I am really lusting for some Tein Flex's.

I believe the rest of the country calls that a bride.

LOL sorry but just picturing that is kind of funny.

Yeah in WI its mandatory detainment if you aren't from that county and have suspended/no license. Otherwise they would have just been citations.

Stock suspension really has alot to do with it, I know others swear its other caused by other things, but I rarely have wheel hop, and the only suspension mods I have are JIC-FLT-A2s with extended rear upper mounts. I only have wheel hop if I spin with cold tires, or REALLY spin with hot tires. IDK how it works with those tires though, I think those are more orientated for all season use with an aggressive tread pattern for appearance. (Correct me if I am wrong!)

Yeah, i didnt put much thought into these tires. I just wanted something that was decent for everyday spirited driving. I do like them especially since i paid less than $80 apiece. I'm not sure what i want to get next, i dont want to break anything but i would like to be able to get out of the hole a little faster.

I fear for your differential.. Same with mine, which is what I'm NOT looking forward to blowing up. My plan includes attempting to sell my Torsen before I damage it, then use that money to replace it with something stronger.

Yeah, a t2 diff would be great. Is it the ring or the lsd that breaks?

elesjuan 09-23-2008 04:52 PM

Either Sav or Ark broke the ring/pinion gear. I'm looking into swapping either a ford 8.8 or the entire TII rear end.

Miata Roadster makes billet axle hubs for the miata which retains factory miata rear bearings, brakes, wheels, etc... But they accept the TII Rear axle for a complete swap.

Next problem I've been working on is transmission -- I have a Tremec TKO I'm planning on using but it looks like I'll have to make an adapter plate.

JayL 09-23-2008 05:06 PM

I'm going to be doing the ford 8.8 from one of the V8 swap kits available. That way it will work now and if I decide to go with a V8 later it's already done.

ApexOnYou 09-23-2008 05:07 PM

On the Torsens, it is the actual Torsen gears that fail. "Ask me how I know."

I thought that was the case with Savington as well?

No experience with open 1.8 diffs though.

elesjuan 09-23-2008 05:11 PM

Oh I couldn't remember if it was the ring/pinion gear or the torsen gears.. That sucks.

ApexOnYou 09-23-2008 08:10 PM

Maybe Sav can chime in and verify but I am pretty sure the pictures he posted were identical to mine - the torsen gears split and shattered a bunch of the others. I posted when I broke mine a year back and alot of people suggested cryo treating the gears, I really think that is the key to making a Torsen survive serious drag abuse. On the other hand, my 2nd torsen is still going strong and I didn't cryo it. *knock on wood*

wes65 09-23-2008 08:41 PM

Hmm, i wonder if someone like eaton would make a lsd that will go in the miata case.

ApexOnYou 09-23-2008 09:15 PM

Eaton makes diffs? IMO the "easiest" solution is to swap the internals from the 7" RX7 LSD (Clutch type?). Not the strongest, but most likely the easiest if you don't want to take on the TII swap.

wes65 09-23-2008 10:22 PM

http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/Produc...iLSD/index.htm

Maybe i will pick up a 1.8 open diff and swap the rx7 stuff in and then sell my torsen.

ApexOnYou 09-23-2008 10:56 PM

Hm learn something new every day. I thought they just made blowers.

I have heard great things about them, I am not sure if anyone else has experience with them. I dont know anything about diff's however. I dont know how easy it would be to put it in but it does have instructions lol.

You'll laugh for me even mentioning it.. What about that OBX LSD? Its around 450$ IIRC. Had a friend with an 8 second drag civic that ran an OBX LSD... Blew the trans several times but not the differential..

Hmm it might be worth looking into. Swap the obx lsd into the 1.8 open diff case and sell my torsen. I could probably have a wash there. Or maybe close to.
