94 BEGI s4, 2860rs, MSPNP, 10+psi

Here is what happened today. Went to a shop to get dyno'd, see where I was at, make sure it was safe and see if I could get a little more.

BEGI installed the S4 system with the 2860rs, internal wg, MSPNP, ebc, 2 1/2" enthuza, 550 rx7 injectors.

At BEGI they ran it on spring only and using narrowband. Got 217 whp at 10psi, 106 degree weather and with a little boost creep. Full boost was available at 4000 rpm.

NOW: EBC made a big difference in spool Full boost at 3400-3500rpm. Boost is overshooting some around 4-5K rpms but settles back to 10. Might be an issue with the ebc. I'm going to check it out.

Anyway, drum roll please...

241 rwhp and 211 lbs of torque on a Mustang dyno! I'm a happy boy at just over 10psi. That's pretty nice power at a reasonable PSI on a daily driver. The dyno guy lifted very early on the 1st run to see where he was at. Dug a little deeper the 2nd. Ran it to 6900 rpm the final run. Each run was very consistent. I was getting just a little rich at the top end but that's what I had in my AFR tables just to be on the safe side.

When I figure out the overboost issue I'll crank it up a couple more psi!

Now if I could just fix my idle bounce.

johndoe 07-21-2008 10:39 PM

that's really good on a mustang at that psi. Did they tune both spark and fuel?

cueball1 07-21-2008 10:50 PM

John Doe,

They didn't do squat! These were the baselines they put down for me! They tried to up the boost but it was getting some weirdness from the EBC. Overboosting and then settling back to 10psi. I said 10+ psi since we don't know exactly where it was. When we got the numbers from the baseline and everything looked safe, the tuner and I looked at the maps and said "the hell with it. It's about as good as it gets right now." The only changes we made was a little less richening at the top end but we didn't do any more full run pulls. All it cost me was the base price hookup and baseline runs. No tuning time.

When I picked the car up from BEGI it wasn't doing the overboost thing. I've been working on the suspension, washerbottle and some other stuff that's all right around the EBC. I don't know if I have a wiring issue now - cut, grounded wire, etc. - or if maybe the sending lines have gotten pinched. Gotta track it down.

Like I said, I'm a happy boy with those #'s on a mustang.

And I'll say I'm happy to be starting with some of your MSQ.:eek5:

read it wrong.

I hope mine makes similar #'s. It should with the 3" exhuast, 99 head, and slight overbore.

Congrats. I'd raise boost just a hair to put it right at 250whp and leave it there forever.

cueball1 07-21-2008 11:48 PM

Hustler,

With everything you have in your motor you should make another 100hp! If you only make 250 something is wrong. You've got bigger exhaust, pistons, rods, better head, etc. Your's should be very safe to what, 18 psi?

Mines a stock 94 motor and I have to say I'm extremely comfortable with those numbers on it. Once the EBC issue gets worked out and I get the Knocksense in I'll add the extra psi or two. The torque curve is a thing of beauty just the way it is! Really appreciate that in my daily driving.

Now I've got to fab a splitter/ undertray. 1st track day is next Tuesday. Another a week after that. Yee Haw!

Nice numbers!

God I need to install my turbo.

cjernigan 07-22-2008 01:29 AM

That looks great man. I hope to do well with my new turbo, ended up buying a nice new one with a warranty. (Center section only) A T3 60 trim, shooting for 300 rwhp. Once you get the EBC issues worked out ( I have issues as well) it should be a beast.

18psi 07-22-2008 01:53 AM

that looks good, with a very useable tq curve. are you sure the boost creep is the ebc and not a mechanical issue....i would think its from turbo being un-ported with a small wg flapper, but thats based completely on past subaru experiences....congrats, regardless...

thesnowboarder 07-22-2008 03:01 AM

cjernigan, your avatar pic, is it the northern lights?

Nice numbers!

elesjuan 07-22-2008 04:31 AM

Congrats!! VERY nice numbers!! I'd be happy with that for sure on a stock longblock!!!

begi does port the wastegate

Yes indeed. Random picture from google though.

it's why we log our pulls :)

m2cupcar 07-22-2008 09:09 AM

:werd:

so in this case it would be equally accurate to say "5+ psi"? ;)

cueball1 07-22-2008 11:38 AM

OK. I've gone over the logs. Also read up on EBC in the Ms manual. What was happening was boost overshoot. DIY talks about this in the manual. As you can see by the torque curve, the car really likes it!

When full boost would come on it would overshoot to 12.5 psi. This settles back down to 10psi by 5500 rpms. Essentially it would run 12.5 psi from 3600 to 4000rpms and a gradual taper back to 10psi by 5500. Explains the W I D E and flat torque curve. ( at least to my newb way of thinking. )

At the top end it's at 10psi so the hp numbers are accurate. You can tune overshoot out on megasquirt, but I'm not sure I want to! As the chart shows, the car really likes it in the mid range. This car really pulls hard mid range which is where I'm using it since it's a dd car. Any opinions? The 12.5psi overboost bad idea?

Braineack 07-22-2008 11:40 AM

then you made 241rwhp at 10psi :)

you simply need to tune your duty cycle targets table....

cueball1 07-22-2008 11:55 AM

Do I need to or is the overshoot to 12.5 a good thing in beefing up the mid range? Don't want to damage anything if it's not safe but that midrange power is kinda nice.

Any yes, BEGI does port the wg.

johndoe 07-22-2008 11:57 AM

we have lower compression pistons than other years I believe so you'd probably be safe with even a little more. Why not tune it for 12.5 all the way to redline?

Braineack 07-22-2008 12:11 PM

post your boost plot on your log....doesn't look bad to me...but if 12.5psi was held to redline..... ;)
