just shy of what I thought it would make...all in all I'm very pleased with the torque curve. I need a larger exhaust obviously!

RX7 VS OEM AFM.....

RX7 LOST POWER AT 12PSI!!!!

tabs604 12-28-2006 04:12 PM

nice one.

I am jeaulous!

magnamx-5 12-28-2006 04:22 PM

I am dissapointed as well thought you had more comming. Looks pretty damn irch past 6K rpm this could cost ya a few ponys

Al Hounos 12-28-2006 04:52 PM

So, brain, you didn't say in the other thread, are you going to go MS next year? I'd expect another 20hp.

TheBandit 12-28-2006 05:10 PM

I too agree there is some power to be had 5700 or so, looks like it got REAL rich. Get it back around 12 or 11.5 and i would imagine 215 or so could be had.
Good job!

Kelly 12-28-2006 06:02 PM

Nice. Probably woulda hit 250 whp with a full 3" ;)

Braineack 12-28-2006 06:19 PM

That's what happens when you use the OEM ECU, no way to tune out the top-end AFR.

Yes, I'd expect fairly big gains from a 3.0" over this 2.25".

and yes, this summer I'll tackle MS after I do a new rear.

olderguy 12-28-2006 07:53 PM

The only way you could tune it out is with an Emanage when using the OEM ECU. MS will, of course do it, and your attempt at reducing fuel pressure at the top end would work; if you could make it happen.

Even with the smaller injectors, my AFR dropped at the top. I could probably pull fuel with the airflow adjustment map, but it would only be to prove the point. I never drive like on the dyno. Who does?

Braineack 12-28-2006 07:57 PM

Brad's finally making some good power too...however having the same problem keeping the wastegate under control without a helper spring....

Compared to Olderguy's 1st run last summer:

What other mods are you running?

brgracer 12-28-2006 08:04 PM

Good numbers. I'm a bit surprised that the T3 didn't make more power at 12psi even with a 2.5" exhaust. It looks like the torque curve starts dropping off a little earlier than usual, were you holding 12 psi to redline or was the boost dropping a little?

Braineack 12-28-2006 08:12 PM

boost holds strong to redline

i'm using a 2.25" dual exit catback actually

see my VBGarage for a full list of mods....but basically:

T3 S60 Turbo
12x11x18" intercooler
Vortech FMU
Pierburg Pump
O2 clamp
Bipes ACU
BEGi Manifold & DP

m2cupcar 12-28-2006 08:58 PM

You'd think the rx7 meter would have leaned out that top end some.
Where do you hit 12psi? Your power curve has a nice rise and then flattens with the torque curve- think that's the exhaust?

no, my logs show it being the exact same...it's just the nature of the ecu using an internal map and I'm using 305cc injectors.

I hit 12psi at around 4.2k.

I really think the exhaust is a bottle-neck that's limiting my full potential....but seriously...I'm happy with the numbers....:bigtu:

rotaryjunky 12-28-2006 09:41 PM

I would love that kind of power someday. Congratulations. Nice "baseline".

Just follow the FAQs ;)

Ben 12-28-2006 11:15 PM

I have torque envy. All of you (OG, NBS, B) have sick torque curves.

Braineack, can you repost a graph starting at 1k rpm? Thx

no can do....I start to run at 3k, some a little later...had to slam on the gas, start my datalog and hit the dyno button all at once...

Ben 12-28-2006 11:35 PM

All good.

They let you run the dyno? :gay:

hell yeah...me and Brad tinkered around on his for an hour and did 16 pulls. I just did 4 quick pulls. The shop I go to is real cool, so I'll post some pics of the day:

Exhaust leak? That's a lot of black shit on the hood.

http://www.rev2red.com/images/cars/d...dynoday009.jpg

F20turbo 12-29-2006 12:24 AM

196/174 @ 12psi is not all that bad considering the 2 1/4" exhaust, and the crazy rich up top. I lose power on my car due to 10.8 afr's on the top but you completely flatline at 10:1 afr's. You could gain 15whp up top jut by leaning it out and another 10whp from a 3". That puts you right at 215-220whp right where you should be:).

cjernigan 12-29-2006 12:42 AM

Exhaust leak or oil burning off the turbo. My hood has some black on it too.

kotomile 12-29-2006 01:14 AM

That black SRT4 needs to rip off the duals. I did it to mine, weighs about 12 lbs. and eliminates that sloppy fork in the exhaust :)

Cool pics!

magnamx-5 12-29-2006 08:18 AM

some sick torque for 160 hp i would say that guys deffinitly needs an exhaust.

Mach929 12-29-2006 11:17 AM

how did brads car end up?

Braineack 12-29-2006 12:05 PM

his plot is in post #9...compared to Bruce's run...needs a wastegate spring....those greddy ones stink man! (i uploaded here larger)

BTW Ben....I do have this plot at 11psi.

F20turbo 12-30-2006 05:03 PM

the more i look at your charts the more I wonder why it spools so slowly. It has to be in your 2 1/4 exhaust. When I had the S60 on my 1.6L I had a full 2.5in turbo back w/ no cat. I would see 12psi @ 3700rpm and 18psi @ 4100rpm.

Braineack 12-30-2006 05:27 PM

on the street I see 12psi at 3.8-4k...but I dunno how accurate both are. when I do an exhaust I'll go back and see what it does.

savior 01-01-2007 04:25 PM

what bumper is that on the all white car?

Braineack 01-01-2007 06:08 PM

wisdom or vision or something like that....not sure...it was just a customer's car that happened to be there.
