Default Any experience with Failsafe Boost/AFR combo gauges here?

So it's time to put in a boost gauge. I've been running an AEM UEGO wideband for a little bit, but I don't love how blinky it is. I'm also looking to keep the setup in the cabin as simple as possible, so I was considering running a combo AFR/Boost gauge to keep everything in a neat little package. I was wondering if anyone's had any experience with either the Innovate PSB-1 or the AEM 30-4900? I'm leaning towards the PSB-1 at this point, but I still just hate the open air calibration deal on principle.

Thanks in advance!

I’ve used the failsafe with limited success. Couldn’t get it to communicate with the ms1 I was tuning at the time. Otherwise a good option

The failsafe is fantastic, I've used it with MS1/MSPNP1/MS3Basic. Really helps keep the interior uncluttered.

Thanks, this is helpful. Borka/Albumleaf, you were using the AEM unit I'm assuming? I'm worried about the visibility of it as the car is run almost exclusively with the top down. How was it at night? I try not to put too much stock in Amazon reviews for car parts, but a lot of people complained that the backlighting wasn't great.

My memory is a bit foggy which one I had on which car, but I do believe I had both aem and innovate.

My msm I believe I had aem and my 99 sport had innovate.

I do remember they both worked great for boost control and afr and such. But display sucked in daylight on both.

I specifically remember how washed out the display was during daylight top down.

I just bought an Innovate SCG-1 which does everything of the PSB-1 plus adds boost control. My buddy has it installed in his Miata and it's just awesome. The boost control is great and easy to adjust, has wideband and boost gauges, and even a shift-light. Basically everything you need.

I was looking at that as well. Is it worth the extra money for boost control set up in the gauge? I haven't gotten any experience with a boost controller but it seems like something that might be better handled through the ECU if they cost close to the same?

I don't have any issue seeing the AEM failsafe with the top down on a sunny day -- same goes at night. If glare is an issue Revlimiter sells replacement glass with an anti-reflective coating for them. The key is making sure you connect the dimmer wire to the radio harness.

Megasquirt will control boost better and will hold the wastegate shut longer so boost will build faster this is all true. The most appealing part of the Innovate boost control to me is just being able to adjust it on the fly with just a few button pushes, to any pressure I want. Also the turbo in question is an EFR so there wasn't really any lag anyway.

Andy, that gauge is trick as hell. Thanks guys, this gives me a fair amount to think about. It'll be a while until I'm running off more than spring pressure on my wastegate, but I'm going to have to seriously consider running the SCG-1 as well.
