This board was designed for an OBD1 Miata pinout, so this 1994 PnPish prototype has less wiring clutter:

Does this look like a 2001-2005 miata connector? These are available new so a board could be made for that connector. 1123038-2 Product Details - TE

We are trying to start another Miata and there is this scary sound and then we kill it. We've got it twice already, and switched to stock ECU since - the engine runs perfectly on stock ECU without the sound. What is it?

Here is the youtube:

Hard to tell from the video, but is that belt squeal? Like maybe the alternator is kicking up the load trying to charge after the engine starts?

Has been a while since the last update, life was a bit in the way and then racing and wrenching etc.

Anyway

Hardware design is good enough - recently got a second batch of same rev 0.4 assembled in China:

How's your experience been getting things assembled there. Who did you use, good QC? Etc? Feel free to PM me.

Where can I find your schematics?

Awesome stuff.
That power supply looks like it can handle just about anything a Miata alternator can throw at it.

TPS on Inp5 looks like it's missing a connection from TPS to opamp input.

I am the software guy, I'll pass the glitch note to the hardware guy :)

got a PM asking where is all this at the moment.

This ECU project is somewhat stalled in beta version: the hardware design is pretty settled and looks good, software is still lacking a bit but kind-of-good-enough, but no one with advanced car & tuning experienced has played with this yet to really test it. Until someone who would really be able to evaluate it tries it, I am in the dark in terms of what is missing to make the last steps towards having something useful.

I have a prototyping shop assembling these boards for us, a bunch of people got these but troubleshooting this is really requiring some advanced skills.

If cost is not too crazy (which I assume it isn't), I'll buy a board and try it out on my '99 turbo. It's a fairly well running and reliable double-duty driver/track car.

I'm not too far away from Jersey City- working in the Princeton area.

russian 02-15-2016 03:31 PM

Are you Levittown, PA? That's just an hour from me!

stefanst 02-15-2016 03:34 PM

Indeed. PM me.

Just to keep this updated: I got my frankenso and am in the process of making sure, everything works OK. I had it run successfully on the Jimstim today, so it looks like it may actually be able to run an engine.
The firmware already has a lot of basic options, but of course it's no Megasquirt just yet. However, if things go OK, I may be selling an MS3X soon :fawk:

I also witnessed a frankenso (rusefi) successfully running a Miata engine transplanted into the #33 Festiva that everybody is afraid of in LeMons racing. It was performing really well. I got to drive the car too (Up and down a REALLY long driveway). Woohoo!

So kudos to the rusefi team. I definitely see a lot of potential here.

Very cool thread to stumble upon. More options is always a good thing for consumers. I am not at all an advanced user and can really offer nothing in advancing this project outside of my moral support and attaboys. Great work, mostly commenting for the sub.
