Gauge display on radio with OBD2 and MS3
 

Been wanting to do this for some time and finished it up this am.

I'm running a MSlabs (Reverent) MS3 which typically means your OBD2 port is just a piece of plastic that does nothing (well, it still is). But Rev came up with a pretty clever add-on for the MS3- and add on that gives you a operational OBD2 port.

I installed the module and ran the obd2 port over to the glove box. Next, I attached a WIFI dongle (ELM 327) which sends the OBD2 info to my i5. The i5 is connected to a Pioneer App Radio 3. You have to use an HDMI cord, a usb to lightning cable and a digital to lightning adapter. Then using app radio and DashCommand you get a whole display right on your dash with current engine data. It's awesome.
I will most likely end up using the engine dashboard the most but you can view more traditional gauges, performance data, fuel economy data, even log things like time/ miles in each gear. It does a ton of stuff.

This started because I wanted a decent coolant gauge but don't like a lot of gauges all over the car. This is much more sano, and when off-track it's a radio/ gps.

set up the wb to display on there too and you have no need for any gauges at all.

One of the faults in this system is that you cannot (or I have not figured out how to yet) listen to the radio while using dash command. I'd really only use it at the track or testing anyway. The wb and boost I'd like to see while driving and listening to some tunes or I'd do just that. It does display both now.

Things like this really tempt me to expand the Miata hobby beyond my agreement with my wife.

I have a different Pioneer double din that I hooked up my phone to like that, under settings on the radio there was an option for "mixing". I think it may have been "app mixing" of something of that nature. It is set to "off" by default, find that and turn it on and you will be able to play whatever audio you want with the dash command up.

Is it reasonably visible with the top down in full sunlight? I know that's asking a lot but if it was reasonable I would switch very soon...

I noticed your using the standard DashCommand dashboard. Did you ever have any luck setting up a DashCommand gauge to view AFR via the wideband oxygen sensor?
