Default LInk issues

I have an older FM kit with the Link piggyback ecu. This was the actual system that was installed on the "Zoomster" SEMA show car. I installed it on a 99 but retained the 01 intake with the extra injectors. I had to do some minor mods to the harness to fit the 99 harness but all seemed good. took it out and was running at low boost (6psi) with the link not really doing much. As we ramped up boost and the Link started doing more I was very impressed with the power and performance and seteled on a conservative 8 psi of boost and the A/F was running a consistent 11-12 mixture. One of my drivers got in and as she passed the pits I heard some popping making me think it might be running lean. I called her in and adjusted the master fuel up two points and things seemed to be better but still not right. I jumped in the car and headed out on track and bumped master fuel again two points. Car seemed better but wen I got into the boost it fell on its face super rich? Then I realized the problem was that the "onset" threshold had been adjusted to 187 kpa! So it was lean up to 187 and then was dumping a ton of fuel. So I adjusted it back to 102 where it was before and the car ran great for two laps, glanced down at the A/F gauge and I running rich and I' barely on throttle. Link is now telling me the onset is 47! Adjust again and run half a lap and its back at 180 something!!!!! One more adjustment and head out on track but I think at this point the damage had been done and about 200 yards out of the pit KABOOOOOOM! End of the day and that motor.

Has anyone ever encountered this before? I was warned about the Link system and big boost but we were being somewhat low.

Also, I think we are going to use a different system in the future do you guys have any suggestions?

I'd call FM tech support on that one.

Not a popular device with this crowd.

Thanks guys. The thing seemed to work great when it was working but the self editing onset threshold sucks. Next question is where to go from here? This is a dedicated track car and things like AC control and emissions do not concern me. The only real hurdle is that I would like to have the ability to go back to stock within a days work. PNP would be best case.

MegaSquirt is currently developing a PnP unit for 99-00 cars, but their release date is unknown.
Hydra Nemesis is PnP for 99-00.
I also think that the Adaptronic is as well, but I haven't personally looked in to it too closely.

You can do that with both the Hydra and Adaptronic PnP harnesses. And there's a reasonable user base of NB Adaptronic installs here.
