Default question RE: Link ECU access

I purchased a LINK ECU. Andre at Pina Motorsports is going to be tuning it for me.

However, the LINK did not come with Flyin' Miata's software. Is there any other software out there that I can access it with to just set the maps back to Flyin' Miata's base map for 440cc injectors and turbo?

I'm not buying the software just for this. If I need to I will tow the car down from Vancouver to Seattle, but I would rather drive it than rent a truck/trailer.

Will PLINK or PCLink be able to access the burned in base maps?

Your post is a bit contradictory. If it didn't come with FM software, then you need that binary and a chip burner. IF it does have the FM software on chip, then you have access to the defaults as it's part of the code. The keypad (or PLink) can call those up so you can load one as the active map and store.

Sorry, I'll be a bit clearer. It is a FM Link, it has the chip and software burned onto the ECU already. I just don't have the PC software to access it and reset the tune (it's used).

So the PLink should be able to access FM's version of the system and be able to choose one of the burned in maps? It did not come with the keypad. Can I run PLink on a PC with an emulator or does it have to be on a Palm (I don't have a Palm).

Yes- either the keypad OR Plink will get you to the default MAP files- they're on all FM chips. Then just load and store.

Did your link come with the serial adapter box? You'll need that to use anything other than the keypad.

That doesn't have the serial box, so you won't be able to use a laptop/palm with it. You'll need a converter box, try contacting FM to see if they know where you can get one.

I've found the schematic for it so you should be able to make one for cheap. If I'd known what was involved when I had my link I never would have payed $70 for the box.

Any how-to's?

I'm not tuning the car myself. The only reason I need to access it is to set the basemap to 460cc injectors. My tuner is a day away.

Meaning the drive, or you are getting your car tuned in 1 day? Either way, Andre is local to us, so I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue getting one built, unless it uses some sort of crazy hard to find parts.

Well Andre is doing the tuning, but I'm up in BC... so it's a bit of a drive. The plan is 1 day... I don't see why it would take longer than that.

I don't know if he has a box though? He said he has the software... so he may also have the box, but I still need to set the basemap somehow.

Here is the schematic I made using the images from here. I'm not sure if the diodes are really 1n4148's but I've asked someone to check, hopefully he'll have a chance soon. Also it looks like there are 2 connectors on the link side, but there is only one. I couldn't find a 2x7 in the parts list. You can sub in any max 232 compatible chip. With this you should be able download the software as a trial and load the defaults.

Falcon's remaining time might be better focused on finding a serialLINK to rent/borrow for his tune vs. building one.

True, but if you open yours up and get the diode part numbers he could build one in less time than it would take to get one in the mail.
And he could do it for ~$10, depending on what type of diode it is I have all the parts sitting on my desk...

I can do that... BUT let's start at the first few posts and consider about what Mr. Falcon has revealed about himself. At this point I'm assuming he'd be far less likely to build a serialLINK versus pay you to build one for him and ship it overnight. So, do you want me to break open my serialLINK?
