Decided to build it for keeps on round 2. Just got a GBC22-350 from Elite Fab for $748. Should be going on in about a week or so 👍

Based on other posts, I’m guessing I’ll need to port the wastegate if I’m trying to stay at 8psi. We’ll see!

Well that's a bummer update, but I'm excited to see how this new turbo does. I'm not sure how many people on here are running them. I assume it's comparable to a 2560 but with newer tech? Higher max horsepower too it looks like.

Yea, I know man . Only managed to get about 50 miles on it. I have a feeling that being undersized along with my tight BOV cooked it.

I compared the compressor maps on the 2560 and 22-350, they do seem pretty comparable, with more headroom on the 350. Journal bearings don't scare me at all these days with new tech, and I love having the simplicity of oil-cooled only housings.

Didn't realize that turbo wasn't water cooled. Will you be adding an oil cooler (or already running one) then?

I'm adding an oil temp/pressure gauge to see if one is needed. This is mostly a street car, so I'll see what I can get away with.

GBC turbo is installed. Ported the wastegate based on other posts I've seen about creep issues. Fired it up, checked for leaks....cheapo AN feed line fitting leaks like a faucet . Should have new fittings Wednesday....

Got it back up and running. Wow....this GBC22 CREEPS, even with some decent wastegate port work. I keep hitting boost limit around 5k RPM (set to 190kpa). Going to swap to a 0.3bar spring in the wastegate for now to see if I can keep the boost under 10PSI. Still on stock rods, so gotta keep that under control!

It will probably help when I add a catalytic converter to increase the exhaust restriction. Slow that spool down a bit!

Wired open the wastegate to see how bad the creep was......

Hit boost limit at 5600RPM. I'd say I still have some porting to do lol

Drum roll please.......................................

She's a ripper! This is with STUPID conservative timing to try and keep the boost down. I ported, ported, and ported some more on that turbine housing, but the effciency of the GBC is reeeeeediculous. I'll get a cat installed and dial in some settings, but for now I'm quite pleased with the results. Tune attached, open for comments and opinons!

Congrats on your success. That's a nice flat torque curve. Probably feels good to have better than twice the stock power now.

Thanks Six! It really does, completely different vehicle. Here's the where it started/how it's going VD charts:

I was proud of that 121whp at the time lol

Good work man! Excited to see more VD work. I'll probably take a peek at that tune later today.

thanks man! I’m adding in some timing to see if we can get a flat 200ft/lbs….

You are at 20° up top, I don't think you should add any timing without really good fuel and knock detection.
Better make moar power with some boost, no problem going to 12-14psi with a nice taper

I'm using 93 octane and FWLR Tuning Knock Detection to dial in the timing advance. Gives me some confidence to make good edits there

Is 14PSI safe with 10:1 compression on stock rods at higher RPM?

Let's consider AFR's are in the mid 11's and timing is kept rather tame. Eliminating those tuning variables from the equation, my fear is this GBC22 is too good at moving air mass. My guess is that 14PSI out of this thing is some serious flow.

Could be. 14psi isn't 14psi. Some turbos flow lots more.

Then keep it at 12 or whatever it wants...
Run it a bit richer and pull some timing up top, theres ways to not blow up your engine, but adding more timing is the least thing I would do with your CR and pump gas

Finally got around to adding a catalytic converter, no more creep! AND I can smell something other than exhaust while driving lol. A true Poscat

Gotta tidy up my EBC duty cycle to hold a flat 10PSI to redline. Also need to pull a little fuel on the top end. Spark table is as aggressive as I'll go running 93 octane with stock guts.

Loving this end result!
