Default Tunerstudio bluetooth direct issues

Hi

I'm trying to communicate with my DIY-EFI ECU using tuner studio through Bluetooth direct.

I'm using a USB bluetooth driver as my laptop doesn't have bluetooth on it.

I have connected to the ECU using Bluetooth. I can detect the ECU on tunerstudio and can accept.

I've installed the base map but everytime i connect on tunerstudio it keeps going online then offline constantly so unable to upload anything to the ECU.

I have tried connecting cables to the ecu through USB B to USB A but again unable to connect on tuner studio. Visible on laptop same with USB to RS232 to USB B for the connection unable to connect.

Not sure if it's me, the laptop or the ECU but hopefully someone will be able to point me in the correct direction.

I do have a video but due to size cant upload direct.

Thanks

Disconnect the bluetooth adapter/module while trying to connect via USB.

I'm running SpeedyEFI, but have bluetooth and USB setup as well. Similar to the direction Stoffl was going, I've found that the bluetooth and USB will interfere with each other on my setup. I can either use USB or bluetooth, but if I try to do both at the same time I will get strange connection issues.

How are you powering the ECU? Are you using a USB cable connected to your laptop for power or is it connected to the car already? Disregard if that's not applicable on the MS, I've only ever used the speeduino platform (still tuner studio though).

I created an Android App to display and log MS3 data using a USB-serial adapter which worked great.
Later I decided to add Bluetooth I/O but it was so flaky just in my garage without the engine even running that I gave up - if it didn't work in that environment it sure as hell wasn't going to get any better on the road and I sure as hell didn't want customers bitching about the fact that their Bluetooth wasn't working properly.
You want ruggedness/reliability, stick with the serial interface!

(At least on the MS3) Bluetooth is more than fine for logging, displaying live data or tuning changes. Pretty much anything except livetuning because it'll loose connection for a brief period every couple minutes or so.
You'll need a proper Class I Bluetooth Adapter and not just a 10$ chip / pcb soldered or plugged into your board inside the ecu case though. The DIY-EFI bluetooth dongle doesn't even have an external antenna from what I've seen...

I would echo Stoffl's comment for speeduino (at least SpeedyEFI) as well. I've used MSDroid on my phone to make small adjustments to my tune over bluetooth. For small things, like changing launch control RPM at an AutoX event, monitoring sensor data, or collecting data logs I've had good success with that setup.

Sometimes I've had issues getting bluetooth connected at first, but in my experience the connection is solid once it is made. Again, different platform, but I suppose its relevant.

I would probably use bluetooth for tuning more, but I tune with a Chromebook and bluetooth doesn't work with the Linux VM, which is where TunerStudio is installed (not to derail the thread).
