I'm wondering what you guys have to say about my engine, I'm rebuilding it now, but so far I have mahle/clevite main/rod bearings and piston rings. The cylinders have been honed, and all the oil clearances are within spec according to the haynes manual. Crank endplay is within spec as well.

The head came back from the machine shop with fresh valve guides, a 3 way valve job, and they shaved .02" off, I have an oem felpro mls head gasket to go back on.

Also going in this car is a PnP megasquirt, in preparation for a turbo down the road, and because I don't have the ecu for the motor, I figured it would be just as easy to get used to tuning it and wire it up for the MS the first time.

My concerns are of detonation, and getting the valves timed right with that much shaved off the head. What will I need to do to prevent detonation, and do I need to worry about adjustable cam gears, or how does that work? If I knew then what I know now, I would have had the head shaved a minimum, and went with a cometic gasket, but its too late now. I apologize for my ignorance, but I really don't feel like spending weeks digging thru hundreds of pages of posts and comming up with next to nothing regarding what to do in my situation.
