I am getting my 1.6 rebuilt (91 long nose, forged bottom end, td04, stock tranny). However, shop broke the back of the crankshaft timing gear while removing. I have to get a st2 BE oil pump because I cannot find any oem pumps locally so might as well get be as it will cost me almost same.
Thinking about an aftermarket damper but I think it might be over kill after BE pump since I need to stay within limits of stock 5 speed tranny.
ATI damper comes with timing gear and pulley all in one (unless I misread the print); however I need alternator pulley and waterpump pulley changed to 1.8. I wanted to make sure I had everything right needed before comitting.
Does anyone know the correct part numbers? Also, do I need a new accessory belt or 1.6's belt will do?
My other option is to get a new 1.6 sprocket (60-70 $ with shipping and customs) and maybe a fluidr damper.
I would also be willing to buy all the parts from a member here if they are parting out as a set.
Youll most likely need an entire 94-97 alternator, the 1.8 pulley doesn’t bolt to the 1.6 alt. But yes, that and the water pump pulley are all you need. The purpose of all this is to switch from a deep V belt to a 4-rib belt, so yes you’ll also need the 1.8 accessory belt. Any PS or AC belts and pulleys are interchangeable.

thank you very much for the information. In this case, ati option is out the window as I will need a complete new alternator.
I guess I will stick with fulidr damper or just stay stock until I decide to up the power and tranny.
I think that the fluidamper is also a 4-rib design.
It is advertised as straight bolt on for 1.6 but now that I look at photos I have, I think you are right. I asked Bryan fromm FAB9 and he said recommended Fluidampr but he might have missed my MY is 1991. Just checked the photo from the shop, original pulley has v-belt:
I think changeover point is 1993, based on what Fluidampr says is compatible. Never mind, checked part diagrams, 93 also has the same config. I think all 1.6 should have v belt acc. drives.
So basically, this means that unless I go for a new 1.8 alternator (or a later 1.6 appearently) and change waterpump pulley and get a new accessory belt, I have no way of upgrading factory damper. 1.8 alternator pulley is north of 100$ before shipping !
Another expense for another year I guess
Considering this OEM pulley is found between 150-200 $ it seemed wise to go for fluidampr (on sale) but if fluidampr also comes short on this, I will just use oem setup for now.
