Blew my new built engine
Hi,
i am running a stock 1,9 vvt with Megasquirt and approx 270 at the crankshaft.
i built a second engine with all those well known components (wiseco 8,5:1, boundary stage 2, k1 rods, etc.)
while breaking in the engine everything seemed just working fine but yesterday i reved it to around 5500 to 6000 for a few seconds and the oiltemperature suddenly was going way too high...from 95° C up to someway around 150°C.. i pulled over engaged the clutch and the engine died. I had to get home so started it up and went 2000 upm temperatures going down to 95° again heading home (engine was not idling anymore i had to rev it to 2000) .... but after another 50km it locked up my rear tires in 5th or 6th gear. keeping you updated when i got my car towed to my garage. maybe one of you ran intoa similar problem?t Till now i have no clue wat the f*** happened.

Had something similar happen to one I built. Manley rods, ACL bearings, made 148hp on the dyno (naturally aspirated), then started loosing ~5hp every pull. We attempted to drive it home and it locked up. Ended up being a rod bearing failure. Not sure if machining or assembly caused it. We disassembled everything, like, even parts I didn't know came apart. Did you know there's a cir-clip on the VVT solenoid that lets you clean it out? Did a little machining, reassembled and that engine survived many hours of racing. Ironically, it never quite matched the torque numbers on that 148hp pull...
These things happen with new engines sometimes. Learn from any mistakes found, be just a little more methodical with assembly, and if all else fails have TSE build you a block.
