Cam Gears

So what are people running? Fidanza? OBX? Maurha?

The OBX are the cheapest @ $150/set. Any experience with them? They are 5 bolt so I assume they won't slip. Will spending an extra $50 make a difference on an item like this?

I had cheaper ebay ones, which they no longer sell anymore. I used them, then when i changed the engine i left them in my shed and my meth head neighbor stole them. When they were on, they worked well.

what other valvetrain mods did you have CDM?

valve springs and high lift cams will put more draw on the gears than stock...

Here be mine:
Attachment 194405

Boundary Engineering set. Had to be machined slightly on the backside to fit. Adjusted and tuned on dyno a year ago, have not slipped at all.

Do you have any aftermarket Camshaft on it?
what's the Cam gear for? beside adjusting Timing.

falcon 10-10-2010 11:26 PM

Well mine will be to adjust timing once I tune for it, but first off it will be to set proper stock timing due to the block and head being shaved.

Faeflora 10-11-2010 01:03 AM

Buy my FM cam gear. That shit slipped.

Crazy Drummer69 10-11-2010 01:39 AM

Have you checked CorkSport?

Anyone planning to by for their VVT? I only need one, want to split a set?

Well buy my FM gear. Then you don't have to split a set.

AEM Tru-Time. So far so good.

I had the AEM gears on a civic back in the day.

They slipped if i looked at them wrong.

David-LB 11-01-2010 01:45 AM

Has anyone had experience with the Toda gears?

Miater 11-01-2010 02:16 AM

Anyone with slippage problems use loc-tight or vibra-tite?

miatauser884 11-01-2010 08:51 AM

I gained 12 to 15hp with an intake gear with a minor(only noticeable on dyno) loss in tq.

fooger03 11-01-2010 09:30 AM

I've got a set made by mazda. Haven't slipped yet, fingers crossed!

I have a set of toda cam gears. had them for 7 years. they don't slip but the material starts to wear down on the gear where the timing belt teeth ride. to the guy who made 12 - 15 hp. what are your gears set to? just put my engine back together and set them back to zero. switched the head for a 99 and need a referance point to start tuning them.

GeneSplicer 11-01-2010 09:58 PM

I was there for the tuning and thought it was about 8* retard - retarded in timing that is :) But he had only the intake gear.

That's correct, this is the point where there was virtually no tq loss. I think there was a couple more peak hp by going further, but the tq loss down low wasn't worth the gain up top. My VICS did not help my power numbers. It made the best numbers with vacuum port plugged.

It's a fidenza wheel, when looking straight on a the wheel, it is set to the left hand 8 degree mark.

rileyg 11-02-2010 09:31 AM

sweet. thanks for the info. I can't wait to get this thing on the dyno. I think I may have just broken another transmission though.

Kuba99 11-04-2010 11:24 AM

Do any of these cam gears work on 99-2000 NB intake side? There is some sort of sensor on that side and the OEM gears have metal nubs that I assume get picked up by the sensor.

These Ebay ones:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cam-G...ht_2573wt_1165

seem to have them, but they don't list 99-2000 application. Any idea?

Look at the application listing again...

Kuba99 11-04-2010 06:20 PM

I see, how about any of the other ones?
