can i delete my iac?

I'm running a megasquirt diypnp I can't bring down the idle. So Phil suggests a look as the iac I found that the air valve on the throttle body is stuck open. I think this is my problem. Is their a way to stop the iac from doing this and just use the idle screw to a adjust my idle. Please help

thommorud 05-20-2015 10:54 AM

Are you sure its stuck open or is MS keeping it open. What does Megasquirt show that the Idle duty cycle is?

18psi 05-20-2015 10:58 AM

you want to delete a very important part of the idle control system because you're too cheap/lazy to actually fix the part that's not working right?

....or is this a race car and you don't care about cold starts and idle stability?

Braineack 05-20-2015 10:59 AM

l2t.

It's not that I'm to cheap I can't get the part right know and I need my car for the weekend. I'm still in the process of ilde tuning. And I with the air valve stuck open it won't go below 2700 rpm. This is tetemporary. Till I can get my hands on the part. Is their any easy way around this for now. So I can move my car?

18psi 05-20-2015 11:14 AM

If it's temporary then sure.

Can I just use vise grips to clamp the hose from the intake going to the iat would that be the best way to go about it ?

I think the na miatas are mostly temp controled. But I Sent my tune to autotune who sugested to look at the iat. Where I tested to find the air valve is stuck open. And hopefully causing the high idle around 2700rpm

ait =/= iacv
so you still need to try what he is telling you

Leafy 05-20-2015 12:23 PM

You can probably get it unstuck with an old toothbrush and some carb cleaner.

Looks like theirs quite a bit of corrosion. But It's with a try.

Braineack 05-20-2015 12:38 PM

how did you find that it was stuck open?
how did you determine is was mechanically stuck open and not just told to stay open?

18psi 05-20-2015 12:42 PM

telepathy

I took it off and checked it then heated with a heat gun to see if it moves I'm not just guesing . as all-data says to do. And it does not move

you heated up the idle air control valve to see if it will move?

Are you confusing it with a thermostat?

I'm not confused with the thermostat. Though this part works just like a themostat . the part I'm talking about is connected the the intake manifold. With 2 hoses that go to the thermostat. The heat from the antifreeze opens this air valve like a thermostat would. And let's air past the throttle blade. As shown here http://www.justanswer.com/car/2p5e2-remove-clean-replace-idle-air-control-valve.html

ummmmm, the one that controls your idle is the one under the TB

RSager11 05-20-2015 01:21 PM

I'm new to tuning . not Car I've been an auto Tec for 6 years professionaly I still have stuff to learn , but I'm not confused. Maybe im confusing when I type or somthing. I'm just looking for away around this temporarily.

RSager11 05-20-2015 01:38 PM

This is a better diagram to see how it would effect idle . https://www.google.com/search?q=does+a+93+miata+have+an+iac%3F&source=lnm s&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=S8BcVcahEae_sQTFi4HgCg&ved=0CAs Q_AUoAA&biw=360&bih=517#tbm=isch&q=93+miata+iac+ai r+valve&imgrc=sf8UN-qPVJIa1M%253A%3BJh4qkr8taUDb4M%3Bhttp%253A%252F%25 2Fwww.miata.net%252Fgarage%252Fisc_files%252Fimage 002.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.miata.net%252Fgar age%252Fisc.html%3B568%3B524

Braineack 05-20-2015 02:28 PM

he's talking about the stupid air valve on the IM. if that was stuck open your idle would not be stuck at 2700rpm.

go ahead and block it forever.
