I've been driving with my knockoff for about a month now and I have no complaints. The spring is pretty stiff but I can feel the throttle body get softer at very high vacuum like if you downshift and land at 5k-ish. These engines make some crazy vacuum.

This might be a dumb question/threadjack, but in theory I could get one of these and just dremel out the bolt holes on my 1.6 intake manifold, right? I've been kinda upgrading everything around my 1.6 but only getting stuff that will swap over to the 1.8 once my 1.6 goes. I'm getting frustrated with the 1.6 IACV setup and if I'm going to change it I might as well go to the bigger TB at the same time if it will fit.

Yes, I am running a standalone EMS, and yes I understand the bolt holes don't match up, that's why I mentioned a dremel. After some further review it looks like it would be a complete new set of holes.
It was more of a question on if there is enough 'meat' in the 1.6 intake manifold TB flange for me to drill the new holes and if the ports match up. I'd just check it myself, but I don't have a 1.8 TB kicking around to test fit with. Regardless, I don't want to threadjack this any more than I have. |

The 1.6 and 1.8 holes overlap. You have to JB weld the old ones and then drill and cut new threads. A lot of work for no real benefit but its possible.

You would be a good candidate for the junk2 manifold.
1.6 mounting options, 1.8 throttle body too., |

I thought it fit the 1.6 too? |
this thread got real dumb real quick

wasted 5 minutes of my break.

Well I decided to try one of these too. Just a few observations that haven't been noted yet, one major: The difference in the idle screw boss location shown back in post 31 is significant enough that it doesn't line up with the matching flange on the manifold, shown installed on a squaretop:
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4614/...c279f25c_b.jpg Doesn't match up with the OEM or supplied gasket: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4721/...3048e670_b.jpg It's close enough that it will work if you shove some RTV in this gap, but if you don't notice you'll have a nasty vacuum leak: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4698/...52a53cae_b.jpg Also the bore on mine is nice and smooth, unlike some others'. Still has burrs around the holes though: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4656/...1ef568d8_b.jpg Haven't taken it apart yet but I'll post back if I find anything else interesting. Pretty sure the pulley on mine is nylon or plastic of some sort. |
Do all the recent units that folks have received come with aluminum throttle cams?

three months old, aluminum cam.

Just installed mine on my squaretop manifold. As lightness stated, there is a MASSIVE discrepancy with the gasket and idle screw location. Luckily I spotted it after my brake clean bath started leaking profusely.
Also, my TB has a very bad tendency to get stuck shut if I let it "snap" shut. Adjusting the screw rod to preload it a little bit helps, but I am afraid it will wear back into being a problem. Any thoughts on this? |

Can also confirm the idle air port sucks. You can see where it was , the porosity in the arc shape was original location. I put a ball bearing in the hole, welded over the top of it, then removed the screw and took the ball out. Overall, I think if you dont have a bunch of tools and fab skills, this thing sucks. |
Looks like there is an update with a semi-round shaft? Any problems to report with the early versions?
