Compression help

1 Attachment(s)
Block is at TDC cyl #1 and this is what the pulley looks like,Cams look as though they are on time. I remember reading about crank snout problems but I thought that this was only from the earily ones. I would have love to see a broken timing belt =( 0 compression. Any help would be amazing. Cams 100% in time. But I think the crank pulley moved? I honestly do not know. Car just cranks with 0 compression.

Yeah, that's weird.

For a question like this you need to be more specific. does your guage work? Did you test with a guage or are you guessing it has no compression, timing belt may be stretched to all get out, you may be checking the marks while turning the engine anti clockwise instead of clockwise, no pulley can slip.

The harmonic balancer can which will show correct timing when it isnt, but its easy to tell, put a screwdriver into the no1 plug hole and crank manually until its at tdc with the cam marks lined up, no wyou will know if the balancer slipped.

balancer did slip. engine at tdc, still off. that being said car has 0 compression.(bought it this way. +the rad fan was broken. so p.o probably cooked the motor

flounder 04-25-2011 08:11 PM

no compression on all 4?

blkmkiii 04-25-2011 09:40 PM

car cranks like no spark plugs are hooked up. intake has a nice amount of oil.
i did a leakdown on cyl#1@tdc with out plugs in the motor, there was air coming out of cyl #2s plug hole. Then i realized there was a good amount of air coming out the intake with #1 both lobes pointing out.

blkmkiii 04-25-2011 09:46 PM

it just cranks with no compression, just free flow

flounder 04-25-2011 10:09 PM

Do you have stock cams/gears in it? Got any pics with the valve cover removed?

You can try disconnecting the belt and turning both #1 cam lobes up away from the valves then try a leak down again.

It could also be jacked up valves, but kinda unlikely on all four cylinders?

Not a long screw driver but its tdc

They look closed. How's the lash? If your getting leakage from the intake, it has to be in the valves.

Head will be off bright and early, we will go from there. off topic but can i pull the motor and leave the trans in place? (im a fwd/evo guy)

flounder 04-25-2011 11:13 PM

Yep

Techsalvager 04-25-2011 11:44 PM

you can but its easier to pull tranny with motor at the same time imo

Joe Perez 04-26-2011 12:03 AM

Indeed, while it's certainly possible to remove the engine while leaving the transmission in, it's very annoying to get the two separated in situ. To be specific, a couple of the bellhousing bolts are in a really awkward spot.

Some folks actually prefer to pull the whole engine / transmission combo just to do a simple clutch job.

nitrodann 04-26-2011 12:47 AM

yeah both at once is way easier.

yeah, checking out the head at an old machine shop on Friday.
