Default Differences between VVT heads?

What's the difference between the "bp6d-1-1" and the "bp6d-1-2" heads?

The mazda part numbers for VVT heads are BP6D-10-100 and BP6D-10-100A (after 2/02). I can't find any changes in parts that occurred at the same time. I have seen where Mazda created an "A" part number when they moved to a different supplier for supposedly the same part (built to same specs, but often at a reduced cost).

Here's a picture of where I'm getting this from.

Was at a friend's house today. He had two BP6D complete engines in his garage. One was marked BP6D-1-3 and the other BP6D-2-1

I wouldn't be surprised if it were something simple like year of manufacture and plant of origin or similar.

I'll at least give him brownie points for using the search function. At lest some deductive reasoning was used.

But why do the always find a thread from the same month so when I glance at the date I don't notice the year? I thought Jason was building another Miata for a few posts.
