Engine hydrolocked from oil while cranking?
I have a Mazdaspeed mx5. I accidentally overfilled my engine with 5 quarts of oil thinking it was a 4 quart container & oil came out the rear main oil seal & leaked out on to the clutch a little bit then leaked out of the small drain hole on the transmission housing below the clutch on to my garage floor a little. Oil also a lot came out the turbocharger compressor seal filling the intercooler & piping with oil. It messed up the turbocharger. I caught my error in time, blocked the turbo & I am running the engine naturally aspirated for now.
Overfilling the engine more than 4 quarts can cause excessive pressure in the crankcase causing oil seal leakage at the compressor end of the turbocharger. Mazda MX-5 Miata & MAZDASPEED 2004 workshop manual 01-03-09.
I seen you say you put more than 4 quarts of oil into the crankcase.

Guess I'm in the wrong.
And most jugs contain 5 quarts of oil.......
Do you guys seriously not check the dip stick multiple times over towards the end? I can't even imagine just dumping in the whole jug and calling it a day. That's mind numbingly moronic

I always start the car let it warm, let it cool then check the oil after doing an oil change.
I just use the T6 Gallon jugs. Dump the whole bitch in and roll. I check it again in a couple weeks.
Most jugs are one gallon. Only a couple are five quart jugs. You must shop at Walmart because that's the only place I've seen any five quart jugs. None of the three auto parts stores near me have any of them.
My Miata gets RedLine, for which nobody around here stocks the gallon jugs.
My truck gets Rotella, but it needs 10 quarts, and I've only found the 2.5 gallon jugs of it once, so normally I need two and a half of the 1 gallon jugs.

On my truck, I don't even check the stick afterwards anymore. Drain all the oil, pour 10 quarts in the top, oil cap on, hood down. I think that started after the 4th or 5th change - the stick always read the same after the 10th quart so I stopped checking.

UPDATE:
Well the motor is out and has been taken apart and I have a bent connecting rod.

Unfortunately that was only the effect of the oil and not the cause, which at this time is still unknown.
The head is being sent out to the machine shop on Monday to be checked for and cracks or other issues. The intake manifold was filled with oil when it was taken off the head but the throttle body and intercooler piping were dry so the oil had to have been sucked into the intake after the throttle body at some point I'm thinking. However the motor is in pieces and I'm still stumped!
The motor will be getting a few upgrades once this all get figured out though.

I kinda agree with the fuel hydrolock..but what doesn't make sense in that theory is the car idled fine. If he was dumping fuel in the cylinders or cylinder 2 wasn't firing, I am doubting the idle would sound fine...

Well I have no idea what the hell happened guys. I know I have slacked on updating this thread and I'm sorry. The initial tear down revealed a **** ton of oil sitting in the intake (post TB but dry before the TB) The tear down of the block revealed a bent rode as well however the machine shop was unable to find any issues with the head or block. I don't know if my MSM oil catch can sucked up all the oil from the pan when I installed the EFR or what. I ended up calling this one some type of black magic bull **** and went ahead with the rebuild.

Well I put 4.5 quarts back into the motor after I drained it. Earlier posts in the thread said that I should have stopped at 4. I guess the PCV could have sucked some too but there's not telling for sure anymore. (Ugh.. This whole issue is just a nightmare I wish I could forget )
