Default engine revving problems

hi all can some please please help

My miata/mx5 wont rev over 4k and flicks back to around 3.75k
with my laptop plugged in I've noticed the lost sync count
rises
the sync count is fine at idle and up to 3700ish revs, but if you plant it from idle it revs all the way to redline
but my afr's are everywhere and it blackens my plugs up really quickly.
The car is running a base map from Motorsport eletronics I know it needs a full mapping session i just dont want to
send it in for mapping with the problem.
I haven't got the car out to drive yet this was all done with the
car parked

i had a remote mapping start up session where i was told
it seemed to be struggling to hold a steady fuel pressure at idle, we put this down to a cheap after market fpr which i have now changed to the
1.8 rail and 1.6 fpr but its still doing it
could it be my fuel pump??

the car is a vvt turbo swap mk1
with me221 ecu
ev14 640 injectors

here's what i've already tried
new cam sensor
changed crank sensor
rechecked the the wiring
the trigger wheel on the crank pulley
turned on trigger filters off/low/high
checked for crank wobblle

any advice or where to start would be much appreciated

What country are you in, Peter? We will try to help but don't have any experience with ME221.

Is the ME221 you bought designed for the VVT engine or for the NA 1.6 chassis?

It could be that the pickup circuit for the cam/crank sensors isn't right because it's expecting the 1.6 electronics, not the VVT ones.

I’d reach out to the seller/manufacturer and check if that’s all you have to do. I don’t know if this software change accounts for the difference in hardware.

There's a NB1 and NB2, and I'm not sure if that may make a difference in the triggers. I have an NA8 so I've not paid much attention to the NBs.

Could you please try revving the engine AFTER jacking up the rear (securing the car with jack stands) and putting the car in gear?

If the engine revs past 4k in gear you could look into launch control and such, and you would be able to narrow things down.
Just make sure to warm up the engine before revving. I hate doing that kinda thing on a cold engine.

Getting sync losses is a no go, don't go to a dyno before you solve this. It should not lose sync whether you are stationary or in motion.
