Ford Motorcraft 10w-30 Diesel Oil
So I’ve been running Rotella T6 5w-40 in my stock block ‘95 turbo thanks to the information and consensus on this site. Before researching the subject here, I wasn’t even aware that diesel oil was a viable option to put in a gas motor.
Bearing this in mind, I have an essentially unlimited supply of 10w-30 Motorcraft diesel oil. To find out if it’s a compatible alternative to the Rotella oil, what key standards/ingredients should I be looking at? The car is a dual duty commuter/track car. It’d be cool if I could use the Motorcraft stuff for stints in between track weekends (I’m assuming the 5w-40 will be better suited for high temps/abuse on track) but I don’t want to push my luck if there’s something about the oil that won’t play nice with my engine. Thanks in advance for any input! -Zak |
The diesel oils sacrifice lubricity because of the high amounts of detergent. If you're on a budget run what you can get the cheapest. Those are both good quality they just can't compete with a high ester high performance oil.

Run the Rotella T6 on the track and the other on the street. There are better track oils but sometimes it isn't enough of a difference in $/wear to be worth it unless highly stressing the engine.

Right on, appreciate it guys.
