Gordon freaks out over (alternative) facts about valve springs
Christ is this why I am puffing a bit of smoke rolling from a stop? I'm sitting here thinking my rings are toast yet leak down looks pretty solid.
I have another head being built with Supertech not being the wiser to Supertech Springs being potentially flakey and seals being leaky. Edit: added citation per request to elaborate on post. Also added potentially to curb echo chamber conjecture found all over the forum. Regarding the silent minority where folks may not be voicing observations because it's against the grain. Maybe we need to probe Leafy for his sources. https://www.miataturbo.net/engine-performance-56/supertech-vs-sealed-power-vs855-valve-springs-88038/#post1314390

There's a non vocal (for fear of backlash from forum sponsors and mods) group of people whom have a major disdain for the supertech valve springs because they take a set and after some use seem to have significantly reduced seat pressure. I never noticed that problem with them in my motor, though I'm not sure I ran them long enough and I also havent measure the seat pressure currently.
This guy talking about retainers. https://www.miataturbo.net/engine-performance-56/supertech-vs-sealed-power-vs855-valve-springs-88038/#post1393808

The failure I've seen was due to wear, all the way through (only inner spring holding the valve), possibly due to not tight enough so the spring rotates against the retainer wearing the soft Ti.

They have an advantage of having a motor that isn't hot trash, by and large. |
Leafy's not got a great record in my book as a source of reliable data.

There's a lot more turbo Camrys than you'd think.

in for another Leafy thread

If its a legitimate issue it would be nice to get more data points, kinda like what happened with the supertech valve seal thread. Of course with my name on it, people will probably just think I broke something else and move on to another thread. :hahano:
