Great idle, 3g+ cut out!!!

So I tried to take my car out for a spin today after being parked for 3+ months. It started find, idled great, and warmed up fine. After that I hit the street, but when I went to throttle up the car started sputtering. I could only use 1/8 throttle and roll to get it to move. Now when I drive it slow it feels normal, but if I try to lay into it, it coughs, sputters, and bogs out!!. First I found the AFM stuck shut so I took it apart and freed it up. Other then that I haven't done anything else. When I parked it, it ran great. So what else could it be?

I don't know shit but water in tank?

what happens if you floor it.

Did you do anything to preserve the gas tank before you let it sit? Our jet skis do the same thing, after a while of sitting, they need ome fresh gas run through the system to work well again, even though they will start and idle just fine. Start by topping off with new gas.

I put in 5 new gallons of Prem, but I'll drain it all out and start fresh. Should I also change the injectors to my backups? Same type?

One thing at a time. Start with the gas

Try some dry gas or heat or something similar.. basically just alcohols that bring any condensation into solution instead of staying water in your tank. Fill it up with fresh gas, use the recommended amount and just drive it.

Great I'll give it a try. Any other suggestions would be great! Thanks

well it def sounds like a fueling issue to me... does it smell like gas when under load? id fill up more, and put in some drygas, and then let it idle for 20-25 minutes while monitoring engine temp. Then take her out again... if still sputtering around, could be the fuel has started to glaze up in the injectors, or you could have screwed up your fuel filter.... too early to say at this point. success or failure, keep us posted.

Time to seafoam maybe?

CAM sensor was out!! Weird that if affected it the way it did, but I throw a spare one in to try it, and it ran GREAT!!! Thanks everyone for the help. I get to drive my car for a few weks again until I'm off again. So next question is what is the best way to store it for a long time? I'm parking it for over a year. So far I have read to drain the gas, refill with new oil, put a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder. Also I'll be putting it on jack stands without the tires. What are some other things to do? Should I pull the fuel lines and blow them out?

Faeflora 01-18-2011 03:26 PM

????? WTF how do magnetic sensors like that just go bad?

Glad you figured it out.

Myspeed123 01-18-2011 03:33 PM

Good question. I started with the gas, then AFM, on to the TPS, and then the CAM and it ran great?? So I checked the plugs and wires. They were all great, so maybe whatever it was just worked out during my wrecking? Fact of the matter is I have my baby back. Only for a week though and then time to store it!! Damn it!!
