Yeah, looks like you may have survived unscathed. I should have clarified, remove the caps and cams, as the aluminum head bears the brunt of oil starvation. But those look OK. Not great, but ok. Looks like a little scoring but if the head journals are ok, send it.

I had a suspicion you meant to remove the cams entirely too, but went with what was said. And yea, like you said, looks passable so far. I’ll remove cams when I get back to the garage and start separating the head from the block as I check for any damage.

If everything checks out I’ll be sending the head and the BP05 Block to a machine shop to get looked over and checked for straightness, then it’ll be time to start putting everything together.

Last thing I need to check today is the condition of the turbo.

Any advice when checking that? I’ve never owned or worked on a turbo car in my life(NA or SC is all I know) so any help with that is greatly appreciated.

Should spin freely by hand and have minimal/zero play radially and axially.

You might want to look for a new set of cams. The lobe tips look like they've got some wear on them.

Will be taking it apart(from manifold and access) and checking condition tomorrow. Was helping out a friend with their Turbo 1.6 today so didn’t get to play with the MSM at all unfortunately.

The cams lobes do have some spots where it looks like they got scored/excess heat at a few of the can lobe ends but I don’t think that will affect their performance.

I’ll be getting everything checked over at a machine shop shortly so I’ll know if anything is out of wack that can’t be discerned by eye at that time.
