Get that Nepalese guy to lift it with his dick. He can stand with one foot on each shock tower. That will get attention by the side of the road!

I'd get a good long chain, and a big ass rail/metal pole/strong object, chain that bitch up, and just have two people on each side yank the sucker out.

That's just me tho

Well usually I prop up the front of the car on my right thigh, then bend down and rip out the subframe with my teeth. Note that there's no need to disconnect the harness, oil, or coolant lines before removing the subframe; they just pull out neatly if you apply proper angle of leverage. Flinging the frame over my left shoulder, I swivel and smoothly catch the attached engine with both hands, grasping firmly with my pinky and thumb. Then, I stand up, let the car drop, put the engine in my front right pocket, climb into my super guppy and fly back to the shop. I typically do this six times a day, partly for fun, partly to keep my incisors from growing too long, and of course, for profit.

I pulled the block out of my car without the head on it a couple months ago -- used a hoist, but attached the lifting hooks to the side of the block. I put it under a bellhousing bolt at the back (I was taking the tranny out with the block), and used one of the PS pump backet mounting holes at the front. A head bolt could work, but they're a bit long, that's a lot of leverage to give to a very heavy load hanging on some fairly important threads.

Well, I spent a better part of today's afternoon trying to yank the sucker out. Piece of shit engine hoist from Advance Auto would actually tilt as we were lifting the bitch.
Problem is, we never got the engine out.

I dunno, is there a secret to lifting the block without taking the tranny with it?
Or, am I just a dumbass due to having never done it before?

Yes, unbolt it...:giggle:

All the tranny bolts are out, and, we've gotten as far as seeing the clutch through the gap at the top.
I guess I'm gonna have to stick with "dumbass 'cause it's my first time".

Sparetire 03-18-2010 11:24 PM

How big is the gap?

The input shaft from the trans might still be in the clutch disk splines.

chicksdigmiatas 03-18-2010 11:29 PM

I usually pull the trans, its just easier.
