Default JDM bp5a engine swap...

Does anybody have any good experience with Japanese import engines. I know they are no better than usdm, but I am still interested in picking one up for $800.

Quick google search should show the differences: Some have EGR delete, BP5A/MSM Intake cam and may have the BP5A 4-2-1 header (Latter 2 are upgrades)

I am aware of the mechanical differences just want to hear someone have either a good or bad experience with them

Mine was very corroded on the outside, you could tell it spent some time in a conex box on a boat. Past that, it was clean inside and had stups up to quite a bit of abuse with no issues.

I bought a BP5A and used the bottom end on my dads Miata with a BP05 head on his NA. I used the head on my built motor, I did nothing to either the bottom end or the head whatsoever they were extremely clean and had very low miles. The clutch that came on the BP5A was nearly unused. I got my engine from JDMTennessee motors I think. I also got it with a 6 speed and I think I paid 1500 for everything. I got lucky I found an engine that was so clean and such low miles.
