running 93.

That's pretty extreme timing for 93, I would absolutely say a bad tune caused your damage.

curly 03-31-2019 06:42 PM

Holy shit that’s some timing.

SpartanSV 03-31-2019 06:45 PM

That's more timing than I run on e85.

It's also not just a shit load of timing it has stupid transitions. Find a new tuner for the new engine.

Erat 03-31-2019 07:06 PM

Yeah. Your tuner sucks shit.
Edit* nevermind, i just looked twice at that.

I can't be the only one who is bothered by an improperly scaled table. Why have so much unused space? I mean, why not just scale it to 20000rpm while you're at it too.

Stealth97 03-31-2019 07:25 PM

That's more timing than I run N/A.

Bad tune for sure caused detonation and ruined that engine. Could you not hear it pinging?

EDIT: Looking at the other pistons, perhaps your base timing was somehow, waaay off?

Erat 03-31-2019 07:29 PM

You can't hear it. Watch my OPG in this pull @ .35 seconds. This is the real reason i switched to e85 on the 9.5:1 supertech pistons. Didn't make power with the timing you had to run on 93.

....

mzmanny 03-31-2019 08:16 PM

OP recommended that I post my spark map in here as well for comparison sake since we have the same tuner. Dyno run is listed in the link below. Thoughts?

"reputable" does not equal good, stop running those shit timing tables. I'm sitting here wondering how in the hell it lasted as long as it did. By the way, the reason you don't see much damage from the missing piston pieces is because they were molten when they left the mother ship. That's not butted rings, just melted from about10 degrees too much timing. I mean it's not even on the right planet.

curly 03-31-2019 09:13 PM

General rule of thumb for me is 1 degree for every psi, +/- a few degrees depending on dyno tuning. Usually more like 2 degrees at lower psi.

Also, I usually find max hp on a NA tune at around 28-30 degrees. So apply the math, by 240kpa you should be around 8 degrees, not 25 like OP. Mzmanny isn’t bad at 175kpa, but no need to run 20 degrees advance over mbt in the 100kpa row, even if you never run it.

albumleaf 03-31-2019 09:28 PM

Again.. I really doubt those numbers would match what you'd see at the crank, but regardless the tuner is goddamn moron.

levnubhin 03-31-2019 09:40 PM

FWIW, I was peaking at 200ish kpa

andyfloyd 03-31-2019 09:45 PM

Wow yea, you need to back the timing down 10* I thought for sure you were on e85. You need to hold that tuner responsible for that shit

IcantDo55 03-31-2019 09:46 PM

Sorry for the fate of the motor. Did Peter build the timing table?

curly 03-31-2019 11:32 PM

Not worth much, it’s all ~10 degrees too much. 15 if you actually ever went over 7200

30* of timing at 102kPa at 2000rpm? And 40* at redline? What the actual hell? How did that thing not destroy itself into billion little pieces?

OP, your timing table is also much, much worse. If it endured as many laps as you say it id, it's a miracle.

der_vierte 04-01-2019 05:28 AM

@mzmanny:
How much offset do you have? Who set base timing?
That tuner seems to have a good deal going with an engine (re)builder

I had set the base timing following Rev's instructions when I bought the MS Labs unit back when I was NA a few years ago.

Make sure you don't have one of those improperly built ATI damper also.
