Yeah, a little too hot; you now have some wall art to hang in for your garage "Wall of Catastrophic Failures".

So are we gonna have a warm and fuzzy closure here? what happened when you informed the tuner of his piston melting timing map?

Wow, that Piston is completely melted. It must have been detonating for it's whole 700 mile life. That's impressive looking

That is 100% why I rather learn and tune my own. No way I am going to give someone else the chance to wreck what I just built, if it's getting wrecked I better be the one doing it. Our local tuner has blown so many engines I can't keep track. He then takes no responsibility. People keep going to him because they aren't aware how awful he is or he is the only option. I've known him a long time, I remember one time he told me to move my AIT sensor outta the charge pipe because it was seeing really hot air and thus pulling timing. I smiled and nodded as he confirmed his incompetence.

Usually most tuners have you sign a waiver before they tune absolving them of any repercussions should the engine blow up. Learning how to tune my car has been quite enjoyable and it's cool to know exactly what your engine likes.

Man, I think you should let everyone know who it was that tuned it. That way people can avoid him. Sorry about your engine. What do the other pistons look like?

i'm in the middle of rebuilding a similar motor to yours.
mine overheated but dind't crack a piston, all it did was collapse the rings and lost comp on 2 cylidners.
same exact way your did, drop down, stepped on it, loud explosion and imeediately lost 80% of my power.

i'm glad mine didnt die as bad as yours tho...

i also have supertech pistons.

Agreed. Tuning isn't that hard, and I'd much rather blow it up myself than pay someone else to blow it up for me.

Yeah who was it, as a PSA to the community. Obviously there's an accepted risk they they aren't/shouldn't be held liable for, but that spark map killed your motor. Full stop.

Have not pulled them yet, I'm going to replace all of them anyway. The plan is to finish breaking down the block and take it to a machine shop. I'm hoping it can be bored for larger off the shelf pistons. If not I'll be looking for a new block to have bored and I will reassemble it myself. The name of the tuner has already been mentioned.

Guess i'll put 2 and 2 together.

PSA: This timing map brought to you by Peter Florence.

Since I'm not a tuner, are the values I'm seeing in this table the ignition advance, otherwise known as BTDC? If so, that's mind boggling. Monitoring the tune on my NA BRZ with E85 the advance wasn't anywhere near that aggressive.

Motors with decent combustion chambers often don't need/use much timing. BPs compared to motors that aren't trash are timing ******. This map is a whole 'nother ballgame though.

There are portions of that map that are 20 degrees more advanced than what I run, on e85. I may be a wuss, but still.

E85 will hit MBT before normal petrol in a lot of places, so no, youre not a wuss.
