Awesome. Now we're getting somewhere.

That car is built exactly for the power it makes, and can't be increased with the few things it has.

Did he say what exactly the clutch brand was, and ft/lb of power it was capable of?

Either way, it doesn't matter. That engine does not have aftermarket forged rods. Forged rods and pistons at the MINIMUM or it will blow up with any more power. Plus like i said, it's more than likely got overboost turned on.

So i'd just leave the car exactly how it is, and drive the piss out of it, have a ton of fun.
If you want more power you'll be building a new engine, and you'll find out that the 1.6 sucks so you'll go with a 1.8 and at that point you might as well upgrade turbos, header, downpipe, injectors, 6 speed, likely a clutch, who knows what else.

Basically you'll be taking everything out and putting all new and better in.

I was thinking of finding a good 1.8L donor motor for a build up. Then take my time and build a nice power plant to drop in the car. The guy did say the cluch was rated for 300 ft/lbs tq.

thenuge26 08-21-2013 08:54 PM

The guy was wrong.

Erat 08-21-2013 08:57 PM

Well either way, you'll be upgrading to a 1.8 flywheel and clutch rendering the one you have useless.

Like i said, you have to change everything to get more out of it.

I'm sure there is a list of parts needed for a swap on here somewhere. I'll look it up and get started putting them together.

Looks like a 2560 to me.

Either way, it's a 60 trim, i can read it.

Braineack 08-22-2013 07:51 AM

n/m. im wrong.

sixshooter 08-22-2013 08:11 AM

If it has 440 injectors then 230whp is already ALLOFIT. Seriously, just enjoy the car.

Or just light it on fire.

lol

I think I'm getting old like you guys. With every passing year I have less desire to fix what aint broken, and more desire to just enjoy a well built fun car without tearing it apart every few weeks.

Fireindc 08-22-2013 11:38 AM

Not to mention a mid 12 second miata is no slouch.. he could probably make another 20-30whp out of it without grenading the motor right away as well. Although I wouldn't do that unless you have a good daily and you can afford to blow it dafuqup.

HOWEVER, i understand your desire for power OP. Keep the car intact and build a baller 1.8 setup and shoot for the moon. 350+whp.

Erat 08-22-2013 11:59 AM

I guess if money is no object like OP makes it seem to be, who are we to tell him no.

I will say though, that making 400+ HP is NOT like making 500+ with a 350 chevy, or the likes. It's no where near as easy, or affordable.

Plus it's probably best to learn how to tune while it's in it's current state. Though, if money is no object, might as well just do what someone already said and start writing blank checks.

ratboy3995 08-22-2013 07:36 PM

I have been looking in the search bar for 1.8 swap list, but no luck. Does anyone know where I should look?

concealer404 08-22-2013 07:39 PM

Fuck.

Yea I know! I did find a kit for $200. But the reviews made reference to more items that were needed.

Flyin' Miata : Engine conversions : 1.8 conversion : 1.8 conversion kit

That's just to get the engine swapped over.

But there are countless build threads on this site, one of which is mine and very picture detailed showing that it's completely possible by fabbing and making things yourself.

You want to do this overnight, get ready to pay. Otherwise, sit tight, and do some more reading. Seriously, spend a few hours a night just reading build threads here.

Come back to this thread in two weeks.

Read through the Build Threads section until you get to threads with pictures that don't work (everybody likes pictures). When you are done, I bet you will have much fewer questions.
