New Intake Manifold

7 Attachment(s)
I just thought that I would post up my build pics since I typically rarely post my pics on mt.net

Engine is finally in. ETD H-beam rods, Weisco +1mm, amazing port and polish, Supertech +1mm valves, Supertech Dual Valve Springs with Titanium retainers, balanced crank, Webcam 505 Grind, Fidanza Cam gears, Fidanza 1.6 Flywheel, ACT 6-puck clutch plate with HD pressure plate.

Here is the Flipside Customs intake manifold that is now welded with a 5.0 TB flange. There will be more build up pics on their website soon. This manifold is not complete. On the underside it is getting all the vacuum nipples I need for my setup. It is also going to get a throttle cable bracket on the underside. It still needs to be blasted and it will get black thermal coating to match the valve cover and boost tubes. Its going to be cleaner than Knight Rider. I cannot wait till everything is finished. Rob has been amazing throughout this whole process. This drastically reduces boost path volume compared to stock. Cant wait to see throttle response when the blower is setup.

BTW, sorry guys, this engine build is for a custom built 1.6l M62 Supercharger build.

always nice to see some fresh fab work here :)

Sick:bigtu:

NA6C-Guy 10-30-2008 03:18 AM

Awsome! Dont know what kind of power it will make, but it will look bad ass doing it. Black valve cover and intake manifold will look great. What kind of intake setup are you planning (if thats not asking too much)?

:jerkit:

PS, always forget how big a Miata bay is until you see it with a naked engine in it.

Deleted for the whiners who can't take an effin joke despite the fact that %75 of the threads here are worthless.

It was the perfect semi hijack moment to show that after 3 months of practically nothing, I'm finally moving forward.

Apologies to the OP.

wow what let down... no interior pics of the plenum showing the runner ends? :dunno:

every time I see frank's engine bay photo, all I see are two giant holes waiting for turbos :giggle:

Looks great, not sure how I feel about that Fram filter though!!

This guy is a hijacker extraordinaire. I thought I was good, this takes the cake. My hats off to you sir.

This thread is now about twin turbo ls1 monster miata.

Alright, Flipside Customs Intake Manifold is complete. Here is the final pic with a wrinkle coat. It looks amazing and I hope I will generate the 20 ponies other M62 users have gotten from a IM and TB upgrade. There is some awesome details on this IM, I love the Throttle bracket mounted on the underside of the IM. I also like the vacuum lines underneath.

FUCKING GORGEOUS!!!!!

How much would a manifold like this cost,if Flipside were to make another one.

viperormiata 01-09-2009 02:33 AM

That manifold makes me happy in pants

drbogg 01-09-2009 05:49 AM

man that thing is so sweet dude well done

Dr.

Braineack 01-09-2009 08:59 AM

that thing makes me jealous of my own custom IM.

More then you can afford pal.

Id venture to guess like 800.

m2cupcar 01-09-2009 09:35 AM

Are the runners flush and radiused at the plenum OR raised above the plenum surface? Internal pics? Is the coating for looks only? No doubt there's some power in that massive plenum. :bigtu:

brgracer 01-09-2009 10:17 AM

That's my IM in the pic and once I received it, I'll post pics of the runners and plenum. As for pricing, I got prototype pricing, but I talked with Rob and he said they will be $600 + shipping and you have to either supply a core stock IM or pay extra so he can get one.

If I want something,I will buy it,regardless of what it cost.

$800 is peanuts compared to what I have spent on my car already.

Is this a 1.6L only deal or is he looking to accomodate 1.8L as well?
Why would someone need to supply a core IM? Or is this just a 1.6 thing?

Notice the fuel injectors on the manifold? On the 1.6L the injectors fit into the manifold, it's easier to cut the runners off and utilize the stock bungs and fuel rail tabs.

On a 1.8L all you'll need is the head flange as the injectors fit into the head.

I know where the injectors go, that's exactly why I asked "Is this just a 1.6 thing?" I figured that was the reason, but making sure was better idea.

I also asked Rob this question and he will make a 1.8 IM as well, but I'd definitely talk to him in further detail, especially since there are different 1.8 IMs, EGR issues, etc....

BracedEunos 01-09-2009 02:20 PM

Those are RX-7 460cc injectors.

50trimrecord 01-11-2009 09:06 AM

very nice..I like the wrinkle finish
I too would be interested in the 1.8 style

TurboTim 01-11-2009 11:53 AM

I love that intake mani. So pretty.

I hear there's a local fab guy by you who can do it?

Well....here is a prettier version. Flipside Intake mani Mk II :) took a ride over to Rob's place to see Flipside. Flipside has done it again. Here is the new Intake manifold flange for a 1.8. This is a total CAD'd piece. Awesome venturi flanges that have a very light rough surface to the tunnels. Notice how on the edge of the funnels around the intake mani flange there is a lip. The lip will be mated to the intake chamber. Most of the production he says will get a Mustang throttle flange. Expect this to be the best possible intake manifold that you can purchase for a 1.8 and soon to be 1.6. BTW the thing weighs next to nothing. Cant wait to see it completed.

JayL 07-28-2009 11:30 AM

Looks nice, when's he looking to start selling these?

TurboTim 07-28-2009 12:54 PM

Sigh...I want.

A CNC machine.

Yum.

cjernigan 07-29-2009 06:57 PM

Is this similar to what Travis has been building?

BracedEunos 08-07-2009 03:17 AM

Kinda....this is a newer version of the Flipside manni.

Tedsmx5 08-08-2009 05:59 AM

Very nice, well done, I hope your going to upgrade that OEM fuel regulator?
Good build using the the m62.
Ted

BracedEunos 08-09-2009 01:12 AM

That intake manni is for a 1.8. it was mounted to a junk yard 1.8 head. I have a 1.6 for the M62 build. Thanks though. He will be making a 1.6 in the same exact config, he will making an injector hold for the 1.6 cars since they are mounted different from the 1.8

SKMetalworks 08-09-2009 02:19 AM

Where abouts in Renton do you live? Im up in the highlands.

BracedEunos 08-09-2009 04:27 AM

Ha! Funny. I live in the old Fairwood area just east of Ikea, by Benson Hill. We should have a meet up at some point. My car will be ready for the street somewhat soon, just in time for winter :(

SKMetalworks 08-09-2009 11:50 AM

For sure! Theres a dyno day https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t37928/ september 19th in vancouver

Me and JayL are going to check out the shop and it will be likely that we will attend.

BracedEunos 08-10-2009 01:32 AM

Cool, you going to the corksport thing too? If my car is running I will. I need to break in a new motor and this sounds like an awesome way to do it.

NickC 08-10-2009 06:14 PM

Does anyone have a set of dyno charts of a turbocharged or supercharged car showing the difference between these short runner intakes vs. stock? I'd really like to make one since I have access to CNC machinery. I think I want to do a GT28(60 or 71? not sure yet) on a 1.8 and I'm trying to decide whether an intake manifold is something I want to do. It will be a street driven car, so I'd like to not lose the bottom end too much. Maybe an intake manifold will mean I can keep the quicker spool of the 2860 while still having a good amount of top end. Any advice??
