+1

Vegas for budget enduro. Will make a new build thread in a month or so.

Can we talk about wiring/harness options for non-Kpro/Ktuner users in here? @KMiata

Of course. And we have a package that deletes the harness, timing chain cover, and throttle body for customers doing their own standalone/DBW setup:
https://kmiata.com/products/new-k24z...-race-swap-kit

We're looking to support a Haltech option with a DBW throttle body and pedal. We helped The Winning Formula do a setup like this on a couple of their builds and it turned out really nice. Hoping to make that one of our winter projects. Along with K24Z3 turbo things.

What's the priority level of building a header to work w/ the A2 head, new internal clutch slave, and stock subframe? Sounds like a lot of winter projects going on :-)

Way too many winter projects. It's medium priority. I want to do it. It may be a hotter item once there are a number of K24Z3 cars already out there though. Whatever header we design will be the same piece used for the E30, BRZ, and any other RWD K swaps we tackle that don't have an annoying PPF in the way :)

Not to derail the thread as I know this is for Z3 stuff... but an A2 header that would work with stock subframe and PPF would be very relevant of my interests prior to pulling off my OEM subframe and buying a v8r subframe.. Keep me posted on if this becomes reality.

It's not quite that simple, and any header that will work with the stock subframe will have some compromises in design that will impact flow. There's just very little room on the passenger side of the engine with the stock subframe and stock Miata engine mount location. Our current K24A2 setup is super solid and proven.

Options I've considered for DBW setup.... I'm definitely lacking knowledge on most of these. So I'm missing lots of pros/cons.

Let's assume Haltech 1500 Elite for ECU.

Re-pin OEM RSX harness to Haltech plugs
- Least expensive option?
- More potential failures since it's a DiY
- Unknown if it will work properly with certain DBW setups(TB or pedals?)

Boomslang patch harness
- $500
- PnP is a plus and easy
- Kmiata's conversion harness would be needed as well?
- Unknown on DBW compatibility

Haltech 1500 PnP kit for RSX
- $1800 for the whole sha-bang
- Same as the Boomslang, but less expensive overall?

Custom wire harness
- $$$$$
- Baller
- Easy/quick trouble-shooting
- light-weight

Kmiata's spoon feed option
- <3

Can someone talk me through KPro vs. KTuner?

Kpro is a bit more expensive, but more user-friendly and every K series tuner is familiar with it. KTuner is less expensive, but the user interface isn't as nice and less tuners are familiar with it. My advice is to talk with the tuner you'll be using and see if they have a preference one way or another and go that route.

Ive used KPro/Flash Pro numerous times. Its very easy to use and its pretty well supported.
Ktuner I only used once and found that it was perfectly adequate for basic setups. Im not sure if it would have all the advanced features one might want on a turbo car or anything crazy.

I personally dont like giving Hondata money because of their practices of attacking the DIY/Hackers who laid the groundwork for Hondatas products.

These things can do 400whp at like 10 psi without much effort at all. I had a discussion with our tuner about them, and he told me he had a 9th gen Civic Si on the dyno recently (k24z7, exact same thing as k24z3) and he made 580whp on 100% stock internals. We'll be machining our own turbo adapter for the head soon and I'd like to do a basic 500whp setup in a shop car to explore the potential. $300 engines and transmissions that can handle that kind of power reliably is exciting so we must do it. For science.

Do you have any plans to try out a rotrex Iike many of the Honda guys use?

Oh, I understand the constraints you're up against. Not saying it would be an easy task, but if you figured it out it would be a "shut up and take my money again David" moment.

This is on my to do list. Wont be anywherein the short term but I'll come up with a solution for this. The more interest it gets the sooner it will happen.

A Rotrex is not easy to mount on a RWD K series, and a turbo is. The new Garrett G25 660 is currently my first choice for our next boosted car. I was on track with a friend of mine a couple weeks ago with a stock K24A2 in his S2000 with that turbo. It's surprisingly small in size and he was putting down 480whp at 15 psi with virtually no lag. Funny enough, the same car had a Rotrex on it originally, which they ditched in favor of the turbo and have not looked back.

In the UK these cost £1,800 for just the engine :vash:

huesmann 10-05-2019 10:08 AM

Were there just few Honduhs with the Z3 imported to Brexit-land or something?

huesmann 10-08-2019 08:35 AM

Regarding A/C and P/S—are your still kits the only way to retain both of these functions on a K24Z3 swap?
