Oil consumption causes
My miata seems to be having some nasty habits of eating through oil. The motor probably has 5,000 miles since the rebuild... which included valve seals, rings, bearings, gaskets, etc.
The turbo has maybe 10k on it since I rebuilt it. Its an SR20 T25.
My valve cover vent / PCV consists of a mini-filter on the drivers side, and a 323 PCV valve on the IM side.
The car doesnt seem to shoot out much black smoke. The ocasional puff when I get on the gas quick, but my accels arent tuned for **** so I am pig rich there anyway.
Oil consumption seems HIGH. . . maybe 1/2 qt every few hundred miles.
Leaks are non existent (that was a whole other battle which is finally solved).
My Question: Could the majority of the oil consumption be coming from the valve cover? If so what would be the suggested route for an oil catch can? and a suggested catch can design? I would probably go DIY.
Thanks
