Oil Temp Sensor Location

I am getting ready to start my motor build. So getting an oil temp sensor in the new motor will be done. Where is the best place to put the sensor? Should I just drill and tap the oil pan? Any specific place on the oil pan work better?

Mine is in the rear driver's side corner of the sump of the oil pan.

I have been throwing around the idea of where to mount my temp sensor and I actually have that same spot marked on the oil pan but havn't had the balls to drill it yet. Is there anything that interferes in that area once the engine is installed? I was debating on moving it to the other side of the engine to get away from the turbo side which is getting rather crowded with other crap.

I bought one of these and fitted the temp sensor in that. Provides plenty of other places to source pressure/turbo feeds from. I have the stock pressure gauge in there, with the pressure sender from this gauge in the stock location to provide firstly accurate engine oil pressure but also to provide an idea of the pressure drop across the oilcooler and oil filter.

Put it on the other side, my DP melts it and on some right turns it reads 300* from bumping into stuffs, lol.

Its a decent idea but you want to make sure you get oil temp from the "feed" side of the oil filter deck because we're interested in the temp of the oil in the pan, not the shit that just went through the cooler.

Well, I'm interested in the temp from the cooler, but that's what temp-strips are for. ...which brings me to another concept, if we use a temp strip to determine oil temp in lets say the blazing summer, do we really need an oil temp gauge? I may pull that oil temp gauge out and replace it with teh EGT gauge after all this time.

Your DP needs to get a life. This is the same oil temp sensor that has been in a motor making over 500hp. It has also seen heavy track use. Maybe your DP is closer?
