Default Paid for 8.5:1 pistons, received 10.5:1, was told I would be fine

As stated, I was delivered the wrong CR pistons. I called the company to let them know that I was sent the wrong part, and was asked what setup I'm planning on using. I said that I plan on an EFR kit, probably 6758, and was told that I would be fine with the 10.5:1s in a street car as long as my head gasket is 40 thou. Would I just have to always run lower boost to avoid blowing up my engine or will this be robbing me of top end power in favor of lower end? I've been reading what I can about higher CR boosted motors and the articles pretty much all advise lower compression, but I want to pick some live brains on here that have seen it all. I also wasn't planning on running E85 as that's what else I took away from reading about this potential setup.

Tell them to send the correct ones, naow.

You'll be robbed of power all around as the miata makes power off of timing, and the 6758 will actually be 'useful' with lower CR pistons.

I can't comment on running 10.5:1. If i order a product, i expect to get what i ordered. It doesn't matter if the company says you will be fine. Send the back for the pistons you ordered.

Return them on their dime and get the 8.5:1 pistons like you ordered. The safety margin of the 8.5:1 pistons is worth it on pump gas.

Whether or not its safe, possible, better, worse, or the same is completely irrelevant. Extremely unprofessional for them to ignore your issue and start asking about your set-up. Issue at hand is you did not get what you ordered, Credit Card companies will pull your money back for this issue, you know, if it comes to that.

But yeah, get what you ordered.

You guys are resonating my thoughts, I'm going to send them back. Being a noob, I'm not super confident about certain things yet, but I had a gut feeling this was wrong.

When you lay out cash for an item, you are confident you want that item. Why would you not be confident you got shafted when they don't send you that item and tell you not to worry about it?
This is one of those times in life where it is ok to be a bit of an *******. You gave them an opportunity to correct the problem and they basically told you to deal with it.
If they won't ship what you paid for, or won't pay for return shipping, have your bank refund your money. The bottom line is you paid for goods that were not delivered.

I agree with you there, I sent them a message saying I'd like to do a return, hopefully they'll get back to me soon.

You should return them..and purchase new pistons from a vendor that doesnt suck. Mistakes happen..but when they try covering them up and telling you to run it anyways theres your sign to not let them have your money,

Unless you want to run e85 ..in which case yay for higher compression

I have 10.5:1 wiseco's, and an EFR 6758, and run on **** CO 91 octane at 200kpa pressure (for now)

I've had to make lots of concessions and not run typical timing maps due to the very small margin of error of my static CR. I have had no detonation issues yet, but I'm sure I will when pushing any farther then where I'm at and will need methanol injection or find an e85 supplier.

Next motor will have lower CR pistons. Unless e85 makes a comeback.

Also agree that purchasing from MT.net approved vendors pays dividends by ensuring you get the right product for the job, as well as support those vendors that support our car.

I would have lol'd real hard if someone was stupid enough to tell me "it's ok, just run thicker head gasket". I'd have asked for refund on the spot due to blatand retardation.

I do feel foolish for not demanding a return or my money back. But yes mistakes happen and I don't want to just do it anyway and have a small margin of error as choofoo said he works with. I want a safe engine, not something I have to tiptoe around.

I mean to be fair, it's really hard to drop ship products...

I honestly don't know how they screwed it up anyway. My order on their website clearly says what I ordered. At first I thought the error was mine because the packaging slip said 10.5:1, so I emailed and they called pretty quickly and then told me what I posted about. I felt like Mac from It's Always Sunny... "That doesn't sound quite right but I don't know enough about turbos to dispute it." You'd think the guys on the other end selling the parts would know enough.

You don't have to know jack **** about Turbos to know the following:

a) You ordered 8.5:1 CR pistons.
b) You received 10.5:1 CR pistons.
c) 8.5 != 10.5.
d) They dun fucked up.
e) They need to rectify the situation.
f) They're asshats for claiming otherwise.
