who was this vendor? sounds much like the experience a friend of mine recently had with pistons.

He just PM'ed me and i knew the answer before he said it. Same vendor a friend used. They sent him the wrong size pistons and he had to return them. Now waiting on the new ones and hoping they get it right this time.

Return for correct pistons ( and get reimbursed for the two way shipping).

Running a thicker head gasket will reduce squish, further reducing detonation resistance. IMO that's bad advice from a vendor, particularly of they are supposed to be Miata experts. Never run a thicker head gasket without correcting for proper squish chamber area. That dimension varies depending on rod, piston, rpm, deck height and a few other variables but OEM squish is a good place to start for a turbo engine. N/A, with burly forged rods, we go tighter.

Did the box look like it had been opened previously or was previously returned merchandise? Or seemed like it was in a nonstandard box for the item? Just curious if there is a pattern.

the box didn't look brand new, but I didn't see signs of wear. It was the original box

emilio, so would you recommend i use oem .032 gasket or the cometic .030 gasket from 949? I'm reading up on squish and what that means atm so i can make sense of this and get the picture in my head

Ugh, how can this **** be real. We keep going back to the guy who can't get **** in order, who would send something out and is all chipper when you want to give him money, then can't make good on his countless mistakes and goes radio silent unless you wanna buy more ****. All excuses aside, this **** doesn't happen to this frequency and what will it take to stop sending him business.

Spend an extra dollar and get your **** from an actual vendor that gives a **** about customers. (949/tse/goodwin)

OEM is .031
Standard Cometic is .030

Main reason we sell the Cometic is that is the least expensive, high quality gasket that clears the 85.5 pistons we like so much. OEM is borderline on the 85.0 piston and should always be checked by your pro engine builder.
We offer the two thicker versions for those doing extensive chamber work and fiddling with deck height.

that funding could always be found elsewhere. at some point you have to stop supporting a company that doesnt treat your fellow enthusiests well.

Moderators should be able to decide which vendors contribute to the community, and the value of this forum in particular, as much as they profit. Most every vendor that's invested in selling a full line of parts here participates in Q&A and general tech support. Others are entirely absent.

FWIW Moderators don't really get a say in who gets what for vendors. This is a forum run by a larger company (Internet Brands) who get to decide what actually goes on. Moderators can control the content, but don't really have a say in the actual mechanics of how the site is run.

That is what we would like to see, but really it is up to the vendor to decide if they want to be active or not. There are also vendors that contract with IB that sponsor all IB's automotive sites. CARID is one of those, and I think we have a few others.

Unfortunately mods are not given any information about vendors. Joining the forum or leaving. Generally I just happen to notice a new one, or one that has left and then I reach out to IB and ask about hem.

I have done a solid amount of business with the guy in question, I have also done an astronautical amount of business in multiple communities with numerous vendors, Ive seen AMAZING customer service from big and small business, Ive also seen horrible customer service from large companies. Then there are the companies that fall in the middle.

With that being said, I have done a decent amount of business with the company in question here, or individual i should say. And I am by no means defending him, however he has thrown me under the bus on more than one occasion and not felt bad in the slightest about doing so. Been quoted prices, then time comes to pay and the price somehow doubled, but not before I had already sent the part back for exchange leaving me zero room to dispute. He is a super flaky individual and really only wants to answer you if he has something to benefit from it. But on the flip side, I have seen much, MUCH worse customer service/ business from other companies. So although he isnt the greatest customer service wise, hes not the worst either.

Telling a customer to just run the wrong part, a part he never ordered is just wrong....
