Default Squaretop vs Honda B-series manifold

I notice most threads/builds call for the squaretop manifold for more top end power, I seem to remember a post somewhere, where Emilio mentions using a Honda B-series manifold with a Miata flange welded on.

Has anyone actually dyno tested this?

I noticed the Skunk 2 racing manifolds are pretty reasonably priced and I have a buddy who could weld on the proper flange (although I'm not sure where to locate one).

Seems as though this would be approx = in cost to the $450 squaretop from CorkSport. I realize it would need a throttle body as well, but I'm ignoring that cost as I would be using the SKunk2 miata TB anyway for high-rpm, track use.

Thoughts? I'm planning on building a VVT engine next winter for my '90 track rat.

I never appreciated how hard it was for a lefty to write letters with a mouse right handed.

lulz.

I looked through that thread and didn't see any charts relating to NA use. I realize this is miataTURBO.net, but I was hoping maybe someone had tested it NA before their turbo build or something similar.

My deepest and most sincere apologies if I missed that dyno chart.

How much NA power are you looking for?

Read this, then realize how terrible these motors are without a turbo on and then come back so you can put a turbo on it.

I've read that thread.

As much as I can get from cams/11:1/headwork from 5-8k. The car is a track rat that only very occasionally get's driven on the street.

I'm not interested in tarbo's for my track car.........I know it can be done reliably for $$$$$ but I don't want the added complexity, nor is the extra power needed to be quick on my local track.

I think Emilio was in the 1:25s in **** weather with Crusher at Hallett. That's BOSS 302 on gigantic Hoo-Hoos with aero and good driver type times.
