Temp Gauge Linearization?
 

Hey guys, I want to Linearize my temp gauge on my 97'.

I found this guide:

Monte - 1994-1997 MTGLP

Problem is I have a set of Rev Limiter revolver gauge faces, so my minimum is 120*F, middle is 180*F and max is 250*F. The first range he shows has minimum of 120*F, but a middle of 200*F and a max of 270*F.

I tried emailing him asking for a custom range but the email failed to send as the "address doesn't exist".

Anyone know what I should do? Thanks.

adam@revlimiter.net is his email. It works fine as I have talked to him recently. He should have no problem getting you a custom gauge plate made.

My bad I don't think I made it clear... I mean the email listed on the page for the mod. The guy who posted the page for the mod lists his contact info saying you can contact him for custom resistance specs for a custom range. I was wondering if anyone else has done this mod and what they're results/ temp range are.

Ohhh ok, that makes more sense. I completely read it as Adam's email was not working.

No idea why I didn't think of this before... But those bluetooth OBD2 dongles are like $20 on Amazon. I'll follow the mod as listed in the link and I'll see what the thing tells me for water temp and go from there.

I was hoping someone else did the mod and was able to tell me what the min, max and middle temps were. The link has 2 images, the first has the range being 120-270 with the middle being 200 but the picture way at the bottom has the range being the same but the middle at 180.

Worst comes to worst I ask Adam to make me a custom gauge face after I figure out what the real temp is at various points.

Anyone know how to test a gauge? Like how to know where say 220*F is at without getting my car up to that temp?

Replace temp sender with a potentiometer, set the resistance according to the thermistor table provided (41.5 Ohms @ 220).

Ah I didn't see the table earlier. 500ohm Potentiometer on the way along with the resistors. I'll post up my results so we can have modern and relevant information on this mod.

I ask a simple question and everyone says things EXCEPT what I asked. Ahhh the internet...

I solved the same problem using a micro-controller, providing me with a proper oil-pressure reading and water temp reading.

Thanks but I'm not going MS *just* yet.

A bunch of people on other forums and a few friends of mine who have done the mod HIGHLY recommended against it. They said it works for about a month and then the resistors seem to overheat and the gauge just shakes and becomes useless.

So I got an OBD2 reader from amazon and the Torque Pro app. Pre-coolant flush she idled at 205, post-coolant change she idles at 195 and with an LRB speed undertray and on the highway she fluctuates between 195-205. Now that I know she's healthy I have no reason to worry.

If the resistors overheat, they didn't use the proper wattage resistor. I haven't looked at it in detail, but I'd say you need at least 1/2W.

And just for the people who may read this later: My solution with the micro-controller has nothing to do with Megasquirt.
