Tomei Cam Shafts for VVT
I see that Tomei have a set of cam shafts for VVT engines. It is for a 400hp 2001 Sport. More lift so the engine will breathe better and there should be some posibilities to get some more hp. And there will be less stressfull for the engine than turning upp the boost or changing to a bigger turbo.
Does anyone have any experience with these cams? what hp do they/should they give? Are they worth the price? |
Link?

For the Tomei:
Tomei Camshaft VVT PONCAM and I see that Maruha allso have: MARUHA?s brake metal fitting set (for NA8C and NB) |
Interesting. 1st I've heard of these. You should try them and report back:D
|
Haha, or the other way arround :)
|
I dont see the cost on the Tomeis but for the price of the maruhas you can get custom grinds to match your exact setup rather than compromise cams designed to work on many setups.
|
I think the complete package at IL probably will cost arround $1.000 :(
Do you have any links to companies that make custom cam shafts? |
|
Just wait for TSE to finish their new vvt cams.

How I look at the whole cam situation on the VVT motors is as follows, there are a few companies out there that "offer" cams. I have yet to see anyone actually test them to compare how they do. Also a lot of the cams seem to be regrinds, which does not fix the harmonics issue VVT intake cam has. So I would personally much rather wait till TSE releases their custom cams, that we all know Savington will test out on track for reliability and performance gains, then attempt to go with some other company for cams. |
Why wouldnt a re-grind fix the harmonic? If you change the cam profile you change the harmonic.

There has not been anything set in stone as far as I have heard. I would guess sometime in the spring, but who knows when it comes to custom car parts.

Oh there have been many attempts at custom VVT cams. The reason why you don't see much buzz about them is that in the club racing world, everything is kept secret. Few teams are willing to share any engine specs or power output figures. That's really about all I can say without violating any confidentiality. ;)

I do not doubt that there have been many attempts. I am just saying until some company is willing to show me proof of their cams working, I will not be dropping a grand on each cam. If the choice is drop 2grand on the Tomei cams on ebay today, or wait 6 months till TSE releases theirs and has proof that they work, it is a no brainier to me.

The only BP engine builder I talked to about custom cams is not well respected here at MT.net. |
They have a before and after comparison on Tomei's japanese website. If u use google chrome with auto translate its not too hard to find. The numbers arent super impressive. But I havent compared it with other cams and from memory its a pretty stock set up.
If you want to get really fancy you should see the price tag of Toda cams for miata... |
Tomei == TODA
