Default Tomei Cam Shafts for VVT

I see that Tomei have a set of cam shafts for VVT engines. It is for a 400hp 2001 Sport. More lift so the engine will breathe better and there should be some posibilities to get some more hp. And there will be less stressfull for the engine than turning upp the boost or changing to a bigger turbo.

Does anyone have any experience with these cams? what hp do they/should they give? Are they worth the price?

I dont see the cost on the Tomeis but for the price of the maruhas you can get custom grinds to match your exact setup rather than compromise cams designed to work on many setups.

I think the complete package at IL probably will cost arround $1.000 :(

Do you have any links to companies that make custom cam shafts?

I pre-ordered one of those with my engine. Ball gag made from pure Hoosier rubber, will be amazing all in and around my mouth area.

There has not been anything set in stone as far as I have heard. I would guess sometime in the spring, but who knows when it comes to custom car parts.

How I look at the whole cam situation on the VVT motors is as follows, there are a few companies out there that "offer" cams. I have yet to see anyone actually test them to compare how they do. Also a lot of the cams seem to be regrinds, which does not fix the harmonics issue VVT intake cam has. So I would personally much rather wait till TSE releases their custom cams, that we all know Savington will test out on track for reliability and performance gains, then attempt to go with some other company for cams.

Why wouldnt a re-grind fix the harmonic? If you change the cam profile you change the harmonic.

Possibly, I honestly do not know. What I do know is I am not testing it on my built motor to find out. I will gladly wait longer on cams and let someone else do that R&D for me. I highly doubt Tomei is going to build a proper BP motor and head, put it out on track with a much higher then stock redline, and abuse the **** out of it. I know that TSE will do that before releasing the cams, as they have done it with all the other products that they sell for the track.

Holy crap. That was a rather nasty price tag. For that price it is cheaper to byu a new GTX 3576 and rebuild the exhaust. Just have to wait for the TSE ones then, to see what price they will be at.

There are no links to them. If you search around mt.net for posts by Savington he has mentioned them a few times. Or if you call and talk to him he will let you know they are under development. I also believe in the blog JKav has about KeenRacing building him a head they get mentioned there.

Oh there have been many attempts at custom VVT cams. The reason why you don't see much buzz about them is that in the club racing world, everything is kept secret. Few teams are willing to share any engine specs or power output figures. That's really about all I can say without violating any confidentiality.
