Uber Ghetto Tupperware Airbox / Cold Air Intake

My latest cold air solution... It won't work for everyone, but if you can't weld aluminium and can find a Tupperware to fit in your available space (wherever it is), you may be able to borrow the idea... Looks like ass but so far, it seems to work...
This is with ITBs in a NA with no headlights and a civic rad swap. Could work with turbo cars, NBs, NCs, etc with the right size and shape Tupperware and creative ducting... It's completely airtight and so far, vibration resistant. I will be zip tying the lid on during events. When will people stop using corrugated hose to feed intakes? You may as well use a drinking straw.

At what point is the hose big enough to not have that effect?
If I had like a 24" diameter corrugated hose would it be the same as having a smooth 2" pipe? |
Naw broz, the negative pressure of the intake will slurp the cooler air and fill it into the maaad ubarware box.

ITBs and RHD - yes and yes. But it is a concept that with the right Tupperware should work elsewhere, heat permitting. The hose is double walled silicone flex duct. It is smooth inside - not like dryer duct or HVAC duct. It does rough up some on the inside of a radius but otherwise, it's pretty good stuff. Besides, it's 4" which is about 1" more than my car needs to breathe with aspirated ITBs. YMMV. As for heat, the Tupperware can handle a microwave - it should survive on the cold side of my engine bay - but time will tell. If it fails, I'll try something else. |

Polyethylene and polypropylene in the grades for injection molding or blow molding generally don't start to melt until above 300 degF. Your radiator overflow tank, washer fluid tank, and brake fluid reservoir do not melt!

Be careful how you use the downpipe collar. If it protrudes beyond the air filter's internal velocity stack, then you've created a reentrant pipe end, which is the worst possible configuration. Consider:

Likely doesn't affect you given NA + 4" diameter, but if someone reproduces this with smaller diameters, they might be in for a nasty surprise. |
