Default can we dump the image applet?

It's driving me nuts.

BEFORE:
click image icon, paste immediately into box, hit enter.

NOW:
click image icon, paste immediately **** it went into the text box, wait for applet to load...

...

...

paste again and click insert or click cancel and manually enter IMG tags around url I pasted at normal human speed (usually vastly eclipsed by anything a computer can do, except for loading an image applet).

I hate it.

seventeen hate cats.

I understand this frustration

I usually end up typing my IMG tags rather than using the applet.

Yes please. Used to be super quick, now I have to wait for it to load. Although I used to have to wait for photobucket to upload the picture, so in that sense it's faster.

Pr-existing images: slow

images on my computer: just as fast as it was.

<p>WIth the text editor you have to use for the callouts&nbsp;@y8s, you can't even type IMG tags. [img]https://www.miataturbo.net/images/smilies/hatecat.png[/img]</p>

I'm typing img tags all the time now. I'm even doing it while driving.
It's dangerous. This applet is going to get somebody hurt.

I've also gotten into the habit of manually typing the [IMG] and [/IMG] tags as well. I like the fact that the forum still automatically re-hosts my images when I do this, and it's much faster and more convenient than the applet. If this new image uploader app lasts much longer, I'm going to re-map the Scroll Lock key on my keyboard to a macro which types that for me.

Honestly, I really liked the old method. Click the button, immediately hit Ctrl-V Enter, and done. The new applet adds precisely zero functionality as compared to that, especially since the deletion of attachments still has to be done via the Name: 2oLCglF.gif

Size: 659 Bytes button which, for the record, works perfectly well and should not be changed.

<p>This is a test:</p><p><span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)">EDIT: wide pic deleted for Six. Now Y8S can kill his, if he cares.&nbsp;</span><br /><br />For me, uploading from my computer, and using the site to host (I don't use flicker or other image hosting sites) the new system is easier. But, I have to navigate to the image, drag and drop does not work.</p>

its great for muliple files, sucks for single.

drop and drop in the text editor is the bomb. too bad we are stuck on like 1995 vb and trying to inject modern stuff into io...

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>When this gets fixed, I would appreciate a quick tutorial on the quickest way to upload images from my computer, not the interweb. I <strong>use </strong>computers, but I don't <strong>know </strong>computers.</p><p>And @Schuyler, you are right that the switch in font from type to display is crazy as well (from the other thread). This should be WYSIWYG.</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

The new applet is not significantly better for multiple files than the Name: 2oLCglF.gif
Views: 33
Size: 659 Bytes button.

In a perfect universe, the button would go back to the old popup into which you can quickly paste a link and be done with it. And a new system would be devised which merges the functionality of the existing Name: 2oLCglF.gif
Views: 33
Size: 659 Bytes button with that of the new applet, giving users a quick and easy way to upload a file directly from their PC and insert it into the message, while also permitting attachments which have already been uploaded to be deleted.

I realize that's asking for a lot, and I'd be perfectly happy if the Name: 2oLCglF.gif
Views: 33
Size: 659 Bytes remained completely unchanged and the new applet simply died in a fire. I'm just allowing for the fact that some people might find the "upload from local" functionality of the new applet to me marginally more user-friendly than the way the existing Name: 2oLCglF.gif
Views: 33
Size: 659 Bytes screen works (even though it provides the same level of functionality.)

In which case, you just add a ? after the extension, and the forum respects the original url.

Example:

Name: 8JbYwO1.jpg
Views: 35
Size: 17.4 KB

Notice that that image wasn't re-hosted, and still points to its original location. I achieved this by typing:

[attach]232951[/attach]

(edit: stupid VB trying to parse my image URL as a link, despite the fact that I used the [noparse] tag.)

99% of the time, automatic re-hosting is desirable. Those individuals who know enough about how the internet works to care about whether their images are re-hosted or not can easily prevent the forum from doing so.

edit: this took 6 mouse clicks (could have been less if I used drag and drop).

I should also point out that whatever method DNMakinson used to upload this spewed a bunch of HTML into the post and defeated the image resizer forcing all text on the page to be wider than my browser so I had to side scroll to read all posts longer than the width of my browser.
