completed, tuned, running 7-10 psi for under 1000.00
If anyone ever reads this it might be helpfull in their DIY project so here is a breakdown of what cost what.
megan header, gaskets and downpipe 130.00,
ebay big 16G turbo, with crush washers 155.00 this turbo was set up for an eclipse/tallon i had to remove both housings and drill the center casting for the exhaust housing to fit (it was pinned) and i had to grind the compresser side of the center housing so i could clock the turbo. i also made a bracket to hold the actuator since it was now no where near where it was from the factory.
all oil and coolant lines, (4) 4-an 90 deg fittings, block fitting, oil pan and turbo drain fitting and crush washers around 100 from BEGI
home made turbo drain block $1.00 plus the fitting so aroung $4.00 (dont pay 36.25 for a block, gasket and fitting. get out a drill and borrow a pipe tap! saves you over $30.00!
Mega squirt under 200.00 and it is completely stand alone!
ebay 1 to 1 rising rate fuel press reg. 40.00 (good to replace the top lock washer with a real one and keep an eye on the pressure for a week or so)
330 cc injectors 25.00 ( be very carefull buying cheap injectors...found someone who had really good feedback)
PCV 10.00
2.25 - 3" reducer (for turbo inlet) 7.00
3" long 3" piece of exhaust tubing to adapt air filter to turbo inlet. FREE from local muffler shop!
1.75 - 2.00 reducer from turbo compressor down to intercooler piping 6.00

cx racing 2" ic piping and intercooler 130.00 shipped!
ebay bov 22.00
IC mount DIY ( 1x1 angle iron 2.00)
bov, idle valve, intake air sensor junction DIY
FREE (borrowed a hole saw)
downpipe from turbo to the IC DIY (20.00 piece of mandrell bent tubing 1 5/8" and a borrowed tubing expander
sun pro boost gauge 25.00 from the "ZONE"
gm intake temp sensor 2.00 plus lowes brass npt fitting 3.78 and some hi temp epoxy i had
i discovered the downpipe was bent up too much under the car. good thing i can weld. i cut and rewelded it to its proper location... still worth the price.
how long it lasts? time will tell. will it beat a stock wrx? yes it did from 35 to ?? on a 16G lol
the total was around 995.00 but i did buy a autometer gauge pod for 28.00 (ebay) instead of blocking off my air vents like some people do and i am sure i left something off. but the point is for 1000.00 you can turbo your miata. this project was for fun. i know there are alot of things that could make this a better build but the goal was on a budget and i did it. this was for a fun car...if you want to see serious, my 99 should be done by late summer :) Read more ยป
