Starting playing and all I gotta say is Nostalgia +++++++++++. Last time I played it I was 15. I cannot believe how amazing the game looks updated. Yes, its no deus ex or crisis or far cry, but given what was and what is now, its unbelievable. I could easily imagine this game selling as many copies as the first time if not more if valve had made it officially.
Also you can tell a few brits worked on the textures etc. Halfords polish in Gordons locker, and 'Chuckle Brothers' mugs :bowrofl: |
I still like the HEV suit voice better in the original.

Walking along the mountain/cliff wall is I think honestly the first time a game has made me nervous. Rock sounds, bit of slip at edge, debree and the great view of the valley...
I didn't do much IRL yesterday.... the game sucked me in :P |

OH. I can play this game maxed out on my GTX260 and that makes me really happy. I am really trying to avoid upgrading right now. |
Y no haz multiplayer?

Black Mesa deathmatch?
|
Played a couple of hours and quit. It doesn't remind me of the original at all, I don't know why. On top of that, on a couple of occasions where I had to jump (broken wall after you first get the crowbar, air duct that leads to the security station behind the lowering platform) it just wouldn't work. On the first case, I used a couple of things that I stacked and it somehow worked - it didn't work at all on the second case and I gave up.

Don't get me wrong- I still love platformers like Sonic, but running around whacking a bunch of AI enemies with a crowbar just doesn't really captivate me. I kind of have the same gripe agaist MvM mode in TF2. Yeah, it's multiplayer, but the enemy is just wave after wave of mindless automoton. Adding a second joystick to Space Invaders would be about the same thing. |

I dunno, I just tire of playing against the computer in general. When Doom came out back in '93 and introduced the concept of realtime multiplayer FPS across a network, that was such a revolutionary leap forward that I pretty much lost all interest in single-player FPS gaming after that.

Sure a medic will follow a heavy but that's as far as it usually goes. How often do you see two engineers work together? I also like MvM because its a different type of play. IMHO its a lot less serious then PvP. Tell me honestly you didn't have fun with us? |

In regular play, it all depends upon the server / team. I have been on some serves in which multiple players did coordinate well. Engineers are actually an excellent example, particularly in CTF maps. I have often worked together with one or two other engineers to create a sentry nest around the intel, and whenever one spy got in, whichever engineer happened to be closest (and not dead) took care of repairing whatever sapping / damage had been done to everyone's buildings. Additionally, I've sometimes teamed up with one or two other Pyros in Special Delivery to deny the enemy access to (or the ability to leave) their own spawn by the primary doors. This is particularly effective when your own team is on the lift and at least 2 or 3 other players are focused on defending the intel and repelling the attackers. As they are killed and forced back into spawn, we then prevent them from being able to get back to the lift (thus protecting our own intel-bearer), or at least causing them significant damage and revealing the spies so that the second-line troops can handle them more easily. I also like MvM because its a different type of play. IMHO its a lot less serious then PvP. I also prefer map modes in which both teams are simultaneously on attack *and* defense, as it makes the game much more interesting when it's necessary to balance the tactical needs of achieving two objectives at the same time. Capture the Flag, Payload Race and Special Delivery in particular are good examples here. I occasionally play Control Point as well. Which reminds me, it's been a while since I was in a CP map. Took them long enough to finish this shit.

I wonder how long it will be before a sven coop version comes out. Ive tried to get the GF into FPS games by playing sven with her. Its like having a puppy follow you around.

I am beginning to think I never played the original. I recognize nothing... but my memory does suck.
I think I was still into MUDs when it came out and had started college... so I was preoccupied. |

The low res guns and acid/blood splatter really bugs me for some reason though. |
