Been waiting for this to drop, few more days right? I didn't and wont pre-order though.
|
I want to play this so bad but I have a feeling it would take over my life like WoW did and that is not ok.

Gamefly had a cupon to get the $79.00 delux edition for $63.00. I think they still have that deal going on. |
I didnt like the first guild wars, so I am a little apprehensive about the second one. Funny to learn the GMs will be special forces soldiers though.

I used to be addicted to wow, when i was like 16-18 or something. Seriously put in time into that game. Would never, ever, play another game no matter how addicting it may be like that again. I guess you could say I've grown up in that aspect. I play on buying this game to put in a few hours here and there like i do with all my games. I honestly like exploring the worlds when games like this come out. |
I started WoW as a freshman in highschool and stopped playing in my freshman year in college. I find the game super boring to play now. Problem I have for games like that is I want to be in the top tier of players which requires massive amounts of time. I was in one of the Top3 raiding guilds on my server as well as the top PvP battleground team on my server before battle groups exists and it was still WoW vanilla. Then when BC came out 5 of my old raid buddies and I started doing 5v5 arena and we were a top 5 team in the battlegroup. To compete on that level it is like a full time job. I think I played atleast 6 hours a day at the very minimum. I had a lot of fun but I realized how pointless it all was and stopped. I probably would not get that involved this time around but I could be doing more constructive things with my time.
|
Yeah, i was in a leading guild for a while in vanilla wow on deathwing. Its addicting, just dont get in that position again. Last game i played was Rift and i told the people I played with straight up that I dont have time to get too into it, and played casually. It was pretty damn fun that way.
|
I am all about PvP now and when I did make short stints back to WoW that is all I would do. I have a problem finding good players to play with casually though. If I do end up playing this game that is how I would want to play.
Raids were only fun in WoW when it was 40 people. They became way less epic and had a lot less dynamic potential when they lowered the bar and PvP became so much more prominent. |

Best part about the game is THIS. Unlike other RPG's, or MMORPG's you can explore the ENTIRE world without having to worry about what level you are.
Now, if i do play whose server should I join ? Needs to be a pvp server, no role playing ------ry, etc. |
It drops tonight if you had pre ordered it through their website.. servers go online in 12 hours. For every1 that pre-ordered it via another website it starts the 27th and finally for every1 it starts the 28th officially.
I'll be on a server called gates of madness i believe. There is no pvp stuff in guild wars. The system is made to be server vs server therefore every1 on your server is your friend. If you want to pvp you join what looks like a very large "battleground" similar to wintergrasp or TB. There modes i remember off the top of my head is similar to tb. The capture the flag thing but instead of capping all 3, you make points by having the flag. Anyhow timer is on the front page. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/ |

Hmm, I watched some pvp videos of it before. Are you saying that you only fight people on other servers? That's pretty awesome.
|
Wait... so there is no open world pvp. No ganking or epic outdoor battles at random. That is gay. I understand not everyon likes that but that is why you have different types of servers.
|
The only players you'll find on your server is friendly. There will be no ganking the newbies.
On wow there is the alliance and the horde. 2 factions per server. On guild wars there arent 2 factions. |
I am not gonna lie that is pretty gay. You do not really need two factions for that anyway. You could just make it free for all. Some of the most fun I had was in WoW vanilla in open PvP.
|
Then that would ruin the pve dynamic events completely.
I take it you know what those are? |
No Idea to be honest because I have not looked at it. However, there are many ways to establish open PvP while still having the ability to form teams of players without having two distinct factions the way WoW did (i.e. guilds or the ability to form parties in game).
|
Dynamic events.. you're questing and you get a message "event near by" In that case theres stuff happening near by almost like a raid and everyone is welcome to it.
Guilds doesnt work well as it ends up being 2 big builds and then the rest never survive. |
So how does a free for all ruin those events? People have the ability to work together if they want they do not have to kill each other. If you are implying that the fact that people could sabotage and kill other people and therefore make the events harder then I agree however that adds to the fun and challenge of it. It is simple to have the ability to cast friendly spells as well as harmful spells on others. The biggest complication I would see in this would be with AoE spells but I am sure with creativity they could work something out here. I am not a game designer but to say that the only way to do something in this way would be to have two seperate factions is stupid. That is just the easiest way.
A quick fix to your guilds getting too big argument would to put a cap on guild size. |
Well i'm sure it could be fixed but stuff like that seems more like bandaids rather than fixing it. Oh well it is what it is man. If you want to pvp you go in the pvp battlegrounds.
|
I think my brother might get it so I will probably wait to make any final judgements on the game and decide whether I want to make the plunge. The PvP is gonna be my draw so without a traditional outdoor pvp type system I think it will be a hard sell for me. PvE level grinding becomes too daunting without some suprises in there...computers are just too predictable.
|
Agreed. What's this "world pvp" that GW2 has about though?
|
Lol, you guys are stuck in the "traditional" way of mmorpg's GW2 changes a lot, and takes it to a new level. For the better IMO.
|
And IIRC PvP is arena style. Meaning you have to join a specific area. I'm not much a fan of PvP so i never looked into it.
Looks like the release is 3pm eastern, as early as midnight eastern time... Ugh... Guess i should stop drinking, don't want to pass out. |
World vs world battle zone.
So far the only thing i hate about this game is the lack of mounts. I mean it would totally make sense to have a giant horse or a drake in your bags. |
They best bring them servers up at 9...
|
2 hours 25 mins as of now.
|
Super lag. It's not letting anymore people in. :(
|
What? The game hasnt opened yet...
|
I'm playing it right now.
But there is like an "intro" mission thing, where you have to kill some shit to get into the main game. And it's so bogged down, that it's not letting anyone in. I can broadcast. Maybe... http://www.xfire.com/live_video/erat91/ Broadcasting. |
Eh, i'll try it in the morning. Maybe they'll have it all sorted out by then.
|
LOL i literally just watched you run around for 5 mins then log off. "i better log off, I'm hallucinating" ROFL. Weird. Hmm anyways what do you think so far?
|
Well i dont know guys, i've been playing since like 4 or so hours and it has been running perfectly with 0 lag.
|
I take it you got teleported after you killed that elemental thing? The people i were playing with and talking to on teamspeak got in. It was like 50% of us got in.
|
This over flow garbage is pissing me off. Cant play with a friend because we're in different overflows instead of on our same server. I dont get it.
|
Join a party with them. Then every chance you get right click them and hit "join in" or something like that. Most of the time it will transport you to their server.
It's crummy because the overflows are bit's and pieces of different servers. Making it somewhat impossible to recruit to your guild for a specific server. |
I'm going to let the bugs work themselves out, and see what the general consensus is on the game before buying it. Let me know what you guys think so far!
|
The bugs are minor, and working around them are easy. The game is badass... I haven't payed a game this much in one day since COD4 came out.
|
I tried right clicking on them but i cant see join anywhere.
|
My bro has this. I might purchase this week.
|
So far i havent really noticed bugs that make it unplayable.. just not very party friendly at the moment. Sure the bank doesnt work but i dont really care about that much.

I've found that if say they're in queensdale, you can teleport to divinitys reach then use the porthole to go back into queensdale, you'll end up with them sometimes. If that doesn't work, then you can try to join in again. I've never found a way not to play with people, it's a shitty system to work around though i agree. I'm glad the wiki is back up, that's helpful. |
Bought this last night, played to lvl 7, had fun. Worth it so far, neat graphics and cool shit to explore. Cool combat system. Lots of confusing shit to me that keeps me entertained.. for now.
I'll update after playing a bit more. |
Why you fag no join blackgate like I posted up? Fucking noobs.
I have played a eng to 15, war to 7, ranger to 4, and thief to 4. Like the game over all but have not found a profession I like and pissed that if I take weapon and armor smith they both have the same smelting skills but only the crafting skill I have open gets exp for it. |
Sorry i ended up joining some old gaming buddies on a diff server.
I got to lvl 7 with my mesmer. So far its pretty damn neat, although I'm starting to wonder if i should have rolled a melee class. Oh well ill probably stick with what ive got now. I dont feel like playing every class to decide, i don't have time for that shit! |
I was told to join Gate of Madness since some old guildies from wow were joining it. Still waiting for the full release tomorrow though before they show up. So far I have a lvl 11 warrior and a lvl 9 ele.
As far as the melee vs ranged, i have the feeling this game is favoring ranged a lot more. The dodging system favors ranged very much. So yes i'm rocking a warrior with a shot gun primary and a double sword 2nd set. Fireindc, switch weapons around see what you like better. (Different moves/attacks) |

I'm finding the story kind of short, BUT i love the fact that i can join / play with my guild / party mates in their story. Which is nice because the storyline is different per how you set your guy up. Try working on daily / weekly tasks and clear an entire area 100%. You get really good xp and loot. I'm loving all of the puzzles. Just not the jumping puzzles so much to get to vistas and what not, it's not easy when you've been drinking. |
Alright well i'll switch to black gate, how does one switch now?
Nvm blackgate is full. |
Ranged almost *always* has an advantage in MMOs.
/Just throwing that out there. |
Yeah i just picked up a staff and was liking it better actually. I like how confusing the mesmer must be to fight in pvp (ive yet to try), but i know that there can be 4 of me at once and it confused me at first, LOL.
|
Alright biotches, i'm now on black gate.
Tripzter.1059 |
Fack. I bought it.
|
I think you and friend people off your server, not 100% on that.
tehjeffman.4593 on blackgate |
Stop buying new games dammit! Come finish some MvM!
|
Holy shit my warrior is a monster.
Primary weapon great sword Secondary axe with shield. Initial attack weapon toss (4), then a charge of some kind (5) or (3). Then (2). Then switch weapons and if you're fill to 3 use F1, if not use the axe spin then use F1. I can usually finish off most elites in few seconds Currently i have 1700 ish hp. With this i do about 2500 dmg in this combo that lasts about 5-7 seconds. |
I tried pvping with my mesmer, it was.. interesting. I can tell this is not the type of class that will be easy to pvp with, but it looks like it will pay off if you develop some skills. I didn't like being thrown into level 80 with random weapons and moves I have yet to learn or play with. Because of this alone I did pretty badly, however once I started to get the hang of it I did better. Only played a match or so, I need more time with my character to pvp.
Mesmer is not a button mashing class. It's not THAT hard, but maybe comparable to a warlock in wow or something. Just a ton of things to think about at once when in a fight. So far, the game is totally decent. I'm not going to go out and say its OMGAMAZING, but so far I feel its more than worth the entry price (considering no mo. fee). |
