Default 235/40-17 R-comps WILL fit on a NB hehehe

Since im planning on track days and such... i want some big fat tires for the car. I've been looking at 235-40-17 but was wondering if they might be a little too big. Well they're not! Yeah, they were mounted on 7" rims lol... but the height was all that mattered (and was calculating what offsets will fit with the 235's).

So now that i know they fit, i need to order some for the rims i just ordered too lol.

Here was the test fitting (not my wheels!)

Very nice Mike. Any sight of an 8in wide wheel in the future? I know Ryan fit 225's with 6.5in wheel with no issues when he had his car. Tirerack said that they will not be even able to mount them. Proved them wrong.

PS.. I see your Ohlins....

is the car lowered and what caster angles are you running? i know i want to upgrade to 225/50/15 with a 1.6F/2.1R alignment with flexes and have been told it will rub.

also 17" rims for a track day??? guess you got to race with stile =)

Speaking from experience I know Kosei K-1's will fit on the back with 245's.

Yup, going to be using 17's to help keep the tires planted at lower speeds (auto-x too).

Car is lowered ...quite a bit.

Alignment specs-

Front-

-1.7 camber -1.7
6.4* caster 6.3*
0.00 toe 0.02

cross camber .1
cross caster .2
total toe .01

REAR

-1.4 camber -1.4
0.00 toe 0.00

cross caster 0.0
total toe .13
thrust angle 0.00

Does not compute. Explain please.

Larger diameter lends to a longer (fore/aft) contact patch.

Can you measure center hub to fender for me? I'm looking at running 235/50/15 (slightly shorter than your 17's ~0.5") and i'm wondering how much space there will be.

Thanks!

Larger diameter creates a wider shorter patch- wider is better for grip in lateral Gs, and the shorter sidewall that comes with larger diameter has less flex. It's the weight of th car that determines the static size of the contact patch. I raced on 225-45-15 Hoosiers and the added lateral grip wasn't a big enough advantage to offset the loss of acceleration from the added rolling friction. This was in a 155rwp NB.
