Default '90 car, '96 motor, wtf tps?

I've got a '90 miata with '90 wiring a and a '90-'93 megasquirt pnp, I'm running (well, soon to be running, hopefully) a '96 motor and throttle body. Problem is, the '96 TPS doesn't plug into the '90 wiring. Anyone have suggestions on what the best option is to get this thing together? Can I run a '90 TPS on the '96 throttle body? Or should I somehow require it to use the '96 TPS?

Thanks for the help.

I thought all the 1.8 swaps used the 1.6 TB on an adapter plate?

See the MSPNP FAQ sticky for TPS ideas

Yeah if you're going the gay way about it and using the original PCM. If you have the ability to run either IAC or TPS, why not avoid the expensive and cumbersome adapter item?

I dunno, I haven't looked into it at all. I just know that the kit FM sells has an adapter plate so I figured that's what needed to happen (silly, I know.)

I have no idea how the hell you guys figure this stuff out, but this site is amazing. I probably would have pushed the car out of the garage and set it on fire by now if it wasn't for you guys. Thank you so much.

I read up on the MS FAQ. It seems like what is being addressed is converting the 90-93 on/off type TPS to a linear TPS. At this point it seems I'm more interested in doing the opposite, converting my 94-97 linear TPS to a on/off type (I'd like to stick my 4 prong plug into the 3 hole harness, per se).

I realize you guys may not see this as efficient or even remotely logical, but I dropped right around $5000 on a BEGI kit in April and just over 7 months later the complete kit has finally arrived. At this point I just want the bitch to run. I feel like someone must have addressed the issue at some point. It is possible to hack up the harness and use 3 wires from the 94-97 TPS to send signal to the 90-93 ecu? Any other cheap/quick options available?

Sorry if I'm just being a retarded noob. I'm trying, bare with me :(

No, that's gay and yes you're being retarded. Use the newer throttle body with llinear TPS. If you were planning on the FM adapter piece, sell or return it. Cut the pigtails off both TPS and solder the old style 3 prong one to the new TPS. Just don't use the closed throttle pin, since you don't need it. You'll need power, ground, and position. It's easy to figure out which is which with a multimeter. My pic in the FAQ thread will help too.

I never paid close attention to the IAC connectors between years, you might need to address that one too. Should be easy. Remember to use all the 94-97 idle control values in your MSQ.

Thanks, I wasn't specifically trying to do it the retarded/gay/ineffective way, just trying to do it cheap and quick. Sounds like that method should work fine.
