Default 91 Miata thermostat/overheating issue

So the Miata started over heating today I thought it was normal considering that it was extremely hot out and I was in stop and go traffic, it would go back to normal as soon as I started driving and the water pump and fans were kicking how ever it started getting bad the gauge was right over 3/4 and was continuing to rise so I pulled over and noticed a connector to the thermostat was broken, also I had made a recent visit to firestone they recommended a Coolant flush, they overfilled my coolant resevoir (I remember looking at it the day before was right where it needed to be) I also think the broken connector is their doing as it was perfectly fine before my visit there, anyways I've done about an hour of research trying to find out exactly what part it is that broke here it is
